I have had a side of  9/10oz skirting (Tandy) in my shop for a couple of years and it has become so tough in parts that my strap cutter just about bounces off it. Has anyone got some idea how to improve this, without changing the properties.  I live in the tropics of Queensland ,Australia and the humidity  rarely gets below 60% and is really good at turning bits of leather green and furry in summer .

I had some 12 to 15 oz veg tan I couldn’t click with my manual clicker press. I cased it to see if it would update help and it did. I dampened it like I was going to carve or stamp it and it clicked easier. I am not sure if that’s proper but it worked for me. I let the prices dry overnight stained and finished them the next day.

Put some oxalic acid crystal in the water you case it with and it will minimize the chances of mold or mildew.
