A Timber Rattlesnake made the mistake of crossing my path

Here he is in  a tanning solution.  He will be ready to remove next monday or tuesday  4/12 or 4/13

Not sure if he will be a wallet or  check book cover.

It should make a nice project whichever way you go. What pickling solution do you prefer?

I am using 70% rubbing alcohol and glycerine  mixed at  50/50

This only works for reptile, can not be used on a rabbit or deer hide

seal it up and let it sit a week. give a shake every day

Nice wish we had timber rattlers here, all I get is prairie rattlers, Some get large enough for wallets but most are to small.

Timber rattlers are really beautiful snakes and it should make a nice project. I've seen some videos on YT about tanning snake but I have yet to try it. I'm really interested in hearing how it turns out.

YES,  It is like a piece of suede

I talked to another guy that laid his skin on a board and salt cured it,  he says his is hard and not workable

I guess it is the glycerin that made it soft

Yeah, the only snake I tried was stretched out and salt cured and it was like scaly rawhide. I tried to work it to get it soft and gave up and tossed it. I'd ruined it.
