congrats mattd on your decision to embrace the best way to travel - on 2 wheels!

ride safe please - take an msf course as it will help extend your life expetancy, so you will have time to master the craft of leather work and be careful who of you ride with, if you decide to ride with a group or another person.

pretty cool aint it? fresh new bike!

hmmm...nothing like a ride on a bike to make all right with the world

I have been having a blast on it.. I am planning on taking the MSF course in the next few.. just got to find time in my weekend schedule. I have noticed that I have become a ton more watchful of other drivers on and off the bike.

Steve I like you Bike, what model is that? As for groups, I have a couple of the guys I work with that have bikes and we have talked about going for some rides on weekends...

well Matt - that bike is a 1986 FXRS-SP, a lowrider, in common terms. I've owned it since 88 and have modified it just *ahem* a bit (every single part but the paint), besides the obvious it has a stoker engine and other special performance parts, it goes good - but it is not nearly as scary as the sport bikes - that shot is 4yrs old, these days it is darker, blacker and even less shiny....mmmm

i caution you in terms of riding with people - you just never know how they are going to react - especially since your new at this - so spend time alone, get used to the hyper-vigilance required for survival, tune your riding skils and traffic reading eye - and you'll be good to go - and safe at that.

Matt,

Not sure who you ride with or where you ride but I belong to the Southern Cruisers Riding Club that has chapters world wide. They are based out of Tennessee. They are not brand specific but believe in safe riding. We ride with groups in the realm of 14-30 bikes sometimes. I'm sure there would be a chapter in your neck of the woods that organize rides throughout the riding season.

On a second note, I think you picked a wonderful bike and I'm sure you've put some miles under the tires since you got it. Always remember keep both wheels down and in between the paint.

Well since I got it a month ago, I have about 200 miles on it so far.

I will look into the Southern Cruisers Riding Club see if there is anything local to me in Scottsboro

A "fun" bike... Figure out what kind of riding you will do most of the time... City and or short trips get a smaller bike (under 500cc). Mostly highway- Get a 750cc or larger. Quick story- I have been riding for over 30 years and here is what I found. Smaller bikes are lighter and so much fun and easy to handle for short runs. The bigger bikes hold up better on the highway but in the city are a drag to ride.

I have had both and now since I only ride LOCAL (city) I bought a ENDURO 185cc Honda and EVERYONE that has EVER rode that bike boasts "This is the most fun I have ever had on a bike!" Love that bike! But then again I ride local only. Good luck!
