Members shoepatcher Posted November 13, 2020 Members Report Posted November 13, 2020 also check the spring i in the needle bar above the needle clamp, Machine sews good but a lot of slack in the needle thread as it enters the leather you were sewing, Spring may have a grove worn in it or be broken. glenn Quote
Quote
Members AndrewRespawnShoes Posted December 28, 2024 Members Report Posted December 28, 2024 Hello everyone. I also have a model singer 29k 31 and I have a very small stitch (2mm) which is no longer adjustable, what could this be related to? Thank you and I apologize for my English, because I am writing to you through a translator. Quote
Members Constabulary Posted December 29, 2024 Members Report Posted December 29, 2024 Increasing the foot lift and decreasing the foot pressure can help to gain a little bit stitch length. Other than that it most likely is the bell crank lever tip that is worn down. You can buy made in China Bell Crank levers new but you often have to modify them to make them work for the ancient 29K models. Some years ago I did that on a 29K1 and it worked. Or you rebuild the bell crank lever tip by brazing or welding and file it into shape again. The tip diameter is ~5mm on a new bell crank lever. But keep in mind other parts on your machine may be worn too so it could be more than just the bell crank lever. This was my restoration 10 years ago: https://leatherworker.net/forum/topic/60554-29k1-pre-christmas-barn-find/ And this is the bell crank lever https://www.ebay.com/itm/162385595622? Members NeilP Posted Sunday at 04:23 PM Members Report Posted Sunday at 04:23 PM I'll post a new thread too, but seeing as thsi is one of two threads here that mention this part...thought I'd post up here as you guys on this conversation will get notifications... I have a 29k3..that i suspect will become a boat anchor...but no harm in asking. any one have a scrap machine and will to sell me this carrier? The shuttle carrier plate is broken, this is probably my fault, but the machine was 'broken' anyway, the drive being so worn and the housing was letting the shuttle carrier move and bump in to the needle. Had to drill out the grub screw. A couple of weeks of heating, soaking / small impact driver and it was not going to move. Think I put weight on the edge of the carrier as I drove it out of the gear So here is my carrier, I do not think silver soldering will save this I see plenty of parts from China..but only the bigger ones for the newer machines, or 11 mm diameter gears where this takes the 3 tooth 16 mm gear. Did any one ever gets parts made for theseolder ones? Quote
Members NeilP Posted Sunday at 04:39 PM Members Report Posted Sunday at 04:39 PM I might have actually found one... It says fits 29k3 and small shuttle carrier..the worn gears I may be able to get around with some shimming...time will tell. Quote
