Practice piece Fire Helmet Front

Recommended Posts

So I just started messing with leather working a few weeks ago and have basically just been practicing. Being a firefighter I decided a good practice piece would be a fire helmet front. So yesterday I cut, tooled, stitched and dyed this for a buddy of mine on Truck 7 in Memphis.

My stitching could be cleaned up quite a bit and obviously my lines could be crisper along with better dying. But for a first attempt at making this and for having done this for less than a month, how’d I do?

I can't argue with any of it. It ain't gonna win any contests but it looks just fine.

I'd be super proud if I could get a result like yours with my first attempt at tooling. I've been doing practice pieces on scraps and man is it difficult !!

This is very impressive for a first go. Congrats
