llasso Report post Posted February 5, 2008 These straps were a joy to make, hope you like them I have been wanting to make this set of these straps for sometime and finally got the opportunity to do so. As many of you know Roy had three gun belts in his time the first made by Ed Gilmore in 1938, the next made by Bohlin in 1942 and the last made be Nudie in 1949. Nudie also made a set of spur straps to match the holster and gun belt. Both the straps and the gun belt were adorned with GOLD conchos. These were made for an ad campaign in 1949 called “ Goldmine for 49”. This campaign was conducted for the sellers of Roy Rogers products. I can’t afford gold conchos so I decided to have them made in jewelers bronze. The small conchos are 5/8” and the large conchos are 2”. You will notice that the buckle sets match the conchos. All of the ornamentation was made for me by Wage Silver in California. You will see these straps on the covers of Roy Rogers comic books. The original straps are in the Roy Rogers museum in Branson Missouri. The Bohlin method of construction has been used in the making of these straps, you will note the spur buttons are hidden from view. The carving on the straps is close to those on Roy’s straps. I made two sets of these straps , one I am keeping for me and the other you are looking at. These are a Larry Lasso interpretation of Roy’s spur straps

megabit Report post Posted February 6, 2008 llasso, Great looking spur straps (as usual). They are truely a work of art. Not sure I would be inclined to wear something that ornate but man to they look sweet. In the context of a B Movie hero they are perfect. Duke has it right. These are awesome. They make me want to ride my bike with spurs on.....I just might do that. Very nice. Where do you get the spur part? Spider, Almost any tack shop will have spurs or if you want something nice and a bit old timey check out http://www.lindholmspurs.com/ or if you want to really step it up a notch check out http://larryfuegen.com/ for hand made spurs of damascus steel.
