TracyMoss Report post Posted February 6, 2008 I have a couple of patterns from when I worked @ Oliver's, but I am not crazy about them. I was wondering if maybe someone had a good pattern for a pair of step-through chinks ( no buckles on the thigh). I know people like to hoard patterns, but I am of the opinion that someone else gave it to me, so why not share. I do have a shotgun pattern that I designed, that seems to be well liked. Anyhow, if anyone is in the mind to share, I would be more than willing to swap, or share one of mine. Thanks TracyMoss
Hidemechanic Report post Posted February 6, 2008 TM, you talking about Armitas? Those are the only step in chinks I know of. Anything else is pretty much a shotgun or stove pipe. I guess you could cut them off shoter to make the chink length. I have plenty of chap pats and many chink pats, but no step through chinks. The armitas have a lace up each side to adjust tightness, maybe someone else knows something I don't (big leap huh?)GH
rharris Report post Posted February 6, 2008 Tracy I have a couple of chink patterns but they are not the step through kind. Also I don't like either one. I would be interested in a good pattern if you run across one. Sorry I could not help RussH
TracyMoss Report post Posted February 6, 2008 (edited) GH, They are definatley chinks, not armitas. There is a difference, atleast where I come from. Basically you just encose the thigh with leather instead of haveing straps. You do lace them and I have even put short zippers in the thigh of a few. For the big boys. Thanks anyway. RH I guess I'll jsut have to use some of my cheap uphostry hides and make some prototypes. If I come up with one I think is pretty good I'll let you know. By the way I used to live in Canyon, TX. Went to WTAMU. My wife was the head coach of the equestrian team. Edited February 6, 2008 by TracyMoss

mulefool Report post Posted March 28, 2008 To make step ins I just used my regular chink pattern and lengthened the part where the buckles would be. I'm not crazy about step-ins cause they kind of pull your pant legs up when you pull them up. Unless your pants are so tight you have to spray them on. The last pair I made I told the guy that but he got them anyway. A couple months later he brought them back and had me put buckles in. I've done a few pairs where I make them LOOK like step-ins but they have buckles.
Lamplog Report post Posted April 9, 2008 First post on here, so bare with me, I just finished a pair of step in Armitas, be happy to send you what I have. I just took a chink pattern and kind of worked it from there. I will try to get a picture here but if it does not work. I have them on my website www.granitebuckaroo.com. I could send you a paper pattern if that would work. I am just startin out on chaps, chinks, Arimitas. I have been braiding a lot of stuff but first stab at sewing things. I like to build some saddles in the near future. I tend to like the step-ins better, nothin there to rub you or the saddle. Tom Lamprey

They are the leg protection of choice in my country as it gets hot here but it is wise to have something to protect your knees. I prefer the open back with a couple of thin straps and a clip on each to a D - ring on the side. If you adjust them correctly, there is nothing that gets uncomfortable or rubs you. Several of my friends like a little more coverage and they will have one six inch strip of leather that can be laced or is sewn in place. Either way, you can step into any of them and just tie the front string. I posted a couple of pictures in the Members Gallery on another topic but they show the different types. If any of them are what you are looking for, I could send you detailed pictures. Lady J
timjtodd Report post Posted April 11, 2008 Tracy, I have some step through chinks that I made years ago. I'll get some pictures this weekend and you can see if you like the pattern or not, if you're still looking that is. Here in AZ lots of people wear the step through kind rather than buckles, zippers, clips. Tim
timjtodd Report post Posted May 17, 2008 (edited) two pair of chinks with no buckles on the legs. Just slip them on. They're used so they aren't too pretty. Edited May 17, 2008 by timjtodd
