Was going to at least carve and bevel the stripes and then put some block out on...thinking if I use a dry brush technique with the block dye that may work. Anyone ever try that? battlemunky Report post Posted February 13, 2021 This wouldn't get you the tattered look but it'll certainly make it look like an older piece of leather than what it really is. Grab some felt, it doesn't have to be woolen, just any felt will do, and rub some wax into it. Take the waxed felt and scrub away at whatever you want to look older and worn and you got it. Should be able to target it pretty well to just the blue line unless it's small, just fold the felt accordingly, use a corner, etc. Post up some pics whatever you do, this sound like a good thing to learn once you figure it out. maxdaddy Report post Posted February 13, 2021 (edited) Hey Mary, How big is the flag is going to be? The hardest part of it will be to NOT texture the areas between the stripes. I use lava rocks, walnuts, seashells, etc... to add distress areas for antique or alternate color to settle. But doing it in a controlled manner like this is a challenge. I'm wondering if a hardwood spindle, or wheel, could be textured on the outer surface and then rolled onto cased leather to make your lines? You could slowly roll the wheel over a very coarse surface with lots of pressure and hopefully it would randomly impress the wood. Whether it would be enough to then transfer to the leather is questionable though.
