best string cutter ?

I am looking for a string cutter and was wondering what is the preferred or the best out there on the market I saw one at the sheridan show but lost the card of the man that had them there. Just wanted to check with you to see what worked best and was the most useful out there

Theres one at www.leatherbraidingtools.com it's kind of pricey but it looks like it would work good. You might check with your local high school. The one in town near where I live has a nice machine shop so I called them up and and asked if they could make me one. Their teacher said sure I just needed to bring by some plans or a picture of one. So now i'm waiting for the kids to get er done. When I asked him about the cost he said it was just a donation of what a fella thouht it was worth. So if it turns out ok I'll be tickled pink. I just dont know what to pay them. I figure if it would cost me $250-$300 to by one then I would give them a $100 bucks. Seeing as the kids dont get the money and it should easlie cover the cost of materials for them. Any thouhts on if thats fair or not. Didn't mean to ramble on so much. Hope something in there helps.Mike

That is a nice one I have a Hansen cutter but the one I saw at Sheridan was smaller and cut from the top instead of the bottom when you are beveling used razor blsades and just really made some great string

wow that is an expensive tool that does look relatively simple. Tool setup and design probably took many more hours than actually making it. I think 100 to a school is pretty fair, as it is all about learning by the students, besides I think most students in machine shop would jump at the chance to make a useful item, instead of something that teaches the skills but is not really that useful in the real world. hope this made sense....kinda ramble on sometimes.

My brother has a Bryan Neubert string cutter and it bevels on the top. He is very happy with it, and has turned out some pretty nice gear. He also likes it because you can make very small adjustments so you can get the exact size of string you want. Bryan's number is 530-233-3582. I believe it runs around $400 but am not sure.

Don't know if you are still looking for a string cutter. I went over to a hydralic cylinder repair shop and showed them some pictures of a hansen cutter and for $50 dollars got a stripped down version that works O.K. and it is made out of solid chrome, guarteed not to rust.
