Kevin King Report post Posted October 14, 2007 I am making a tank panel for a customer, and only have the dims. from dash to bottom of tank. I was wondering if anyone could tell me how far up the leather goes under the dash? and if there are any mounting holes and what is the spacing? Thanks, Kevin
TimberWolf Report post Posted October 14, 2007 Kevin, It depends on the model and in some cases, even the year. If you are making one for a Harley Softail, for example, the panels have different mounting holes near the seat. 84-99 were the early style. From 2000 and up Harley changed the tank panel and the mounting hole position. Same for under the edge of the speedo dash- they differ. Alot of the metric V twins have similar speedo housings, so it really depends on the specific model. There are subtle but important differences in many of the tank panels. Let me know if I can help. Kevin King Report post Posted October 14, 2007 tim, It is for a softail 2000-up. I already have the measurements for the bottom hole under the nose of the seat. What i'm needing is the part under the dash.
TimberWolf Report post Posted October 14, 2007 OK,...there are two holes in the top that fit under the speedo. Those holes are for the pegs that are cast into the Softail dash. They are 1.5 " apart o.c. I use a 1/4" drive punch on the the tank panel for those. For proper positioning between the top and bottom holes, what you should have is 8.5" o.c. going to each top hole, from the bottom hole. If you are going to make a number of these, I would recommend buying a stock HD plastic tank panel on ebay. I always double check my hole placement against the stock panel before shipping. You can find them cheap...usually under $5. Good Luck. Tim
Kevin King Report post Posted October 14, 2007 Thanks Tim, That info is very helpful. I dont plan on making a bunch of these. The only reason i am making this one is to match the seat I just finished. Thanks again for the info. Kevin

TimberWolf Report post Posted October 15, 2007 I did a check on ebay this morning. There isn't one listed at the moment, but usually there are several. If I see one, I'll let you know. Tim
