Drawstring Backpack.

Recommended Posts

My wife asked me to make our daughter a drawstring backpack. She sketched up what she wanted and I put it on a pattern. It doesn't look like it will take very long at all to make.

The plotted size is 42"x30"

No joke, thanks! It is great! I used an earlier pattern of tboyce's and printed it on 11X17 and it made a mini-version of the messenger bag. It is now a small clutch. I added some d-rings, removable strap, and a belt strap on back. Now it can be worn on the belt or carried by the strap. I look forward to trying this bag for my children.

Tboyce did you or anyone else ever make this? Currently working on mine. Hitting a few bumps.

I think my 2.5 oz is too thick to draw it closed but we'll see when I'm finished.

36" rope is probably too short. Did it work for you?

The triangle gromments don't go on very easy due to the sides being stitched inside out.

I can see now why the issues you mention exist. I'm gonna try to rethink this and post a possible alternative

Next one I make, I am going to make the corner with three triangles per corner, making the one sandwiched between the other two smaller to create a gap for the bag leather to to sit in. That way the corners should sew on better.
