Ran Across This By Accident But It's Great Stuff

Recommended Posts

With all the heat we have had here in the midwest by start cap gave up in the condenser unit (outside portion of a split system for air conditioning a home) for folks that may use others means of cooling. While checking everything out I found the insulation on the low side in bad shape from the dog and line trimmer I would guess. When I got to the parts house I told them I wanted that insulation and he gave me a 6 foot stick and some glue. The new insulation (aramaflex) is a dark grey closed cell foam that also comes in sheets of all kinds of thicknesses. He said the glue is a 2 mintue and it's stuck forever type thing.

He gave me a damaged sheet of 1" and when I got home I tested it out some. First thing i tried was glue to itself, which worked great then I tried a seat pan with a 5 inch kick (I normally have to clamp that down overnight to get the 3m to work. It stuck perfect to the curve of the 5 inch kick and needed no further clamping in less than 5 minutes. I had been using 3m up to this point but this glue blows that stuff away on price and durability so far. I like the aramaflex as a pad as well. I paid $3.17 for a pint of glue that will last through maybe 20 - 30 seats so not only does it seems to work faster and be stronger but it is way cheaper.

Might give it a go and see if it works for you. The glue is Armaflex 520 but he told me it is sold as a generic brand by various places as well. Hope others have as good as luck as I have had with it.

It does stink, that is an understatement but goes away when it dries which is very fast. It has massive warnings on the side of the can but to me that means it works  . Any HVAC supply house will have it for sure.

I never use those toxic adhesives. I order my foam from Foam and More, in Michigan and have them add the self adhesive backing to it........Cheap? No, but neither is a good dose of lung disease.

Ya the smell is bad if you use it in a closed off area, which of course you shouldn't. David it sure looks and feels like the microcell and Foam n more sells it may very well be the same stuff. The armaflex sure costs a ton more but kind of handy to have it right down the street. I really just use the adhesive to hold stuff in place until I get the cover on.
