Just finished my first fairly large order. The one I made for the Chief Deputy really paid off. I already have two more in the queue and probably more to come once the other departments get a look.

Nice, you got the department looking good. I hope they appreciate how much work goes into making one of these beautiful pieces. You always post really good work. Take care!

Thanks guys. I was pretty pleased with them. I dropped them off this morning and they were thrilled. In turn I left with 3 more orders to start and several more they are going to call me about later:)

Beautiful pieces of art! I like the forming on the pouch, it is perfect. I see the pouch thread color is different than the holster; are the holster and pouch a matching pieces or just pictured together. The thread on the holsters fill the channel very well and lays down nicely. What type of thread are you using?

Thanks vaalpens. The Leatherman pouch and holster were for the same guy, but not exactly a matching set. The smaller black thread just looked better on that pouch in my eyes. The black thread is the regular Tandy waxed nylon. The white thread is the Tejas waxed thread also purchased at Tandy. It is much larger and has a ton of wax on it. I cursed often when I first tried it, but since then, I figured out that I can heat a piece of it just a little with a heat gun and run it between a piece of canvas to take off some of the wax. After doing that, it has become my favorite. I plan to try some Barbour's 7 cord linen some day, but until then I'm pretty happy with the Tejas.

Jack, thanks for the thread information. I also use the Tandy waxed nylon, but find it difficult to get it through the eye of a "0" needle. It has its place but definitely looks like nylon. I have not tried the Tejas waxed thread yet. What size needle do you use with the Tejas thread? I have two other types I use from Springfield Leather. The one is a linen waxed thread which is nice to work with, but you need to be careful since it can break easily at the needle when you pull it through the hole. The other one is a waxed nyltex thread. This one is thicker and I still need to find the right hole spacing to use it. I would also like to try out the barbour's 7 cord linen one day, but it would be nice to find a smaller quantity to first try it out. You can probably go out and order the 1lb tube since you at least are making some money selling your holsters.

Vaalpens, I use a size 2 harness needle which should be a little smaller than the 0. They are just under 2 inches long. I have read a lot of people who do not like the Tejas thread, and I didn't either at first, but have come to like it after conditioning it a little before use. It is very thick and very strong...a lot stouter than the regular Tandy waxed thread you get on the 25 yd spools. You get the Tejas in 4 oz spools. After removing some of the wax, I flatten out the end by running it between the needle and my thumb and have no trouble threading it. When I first started, I used an overstitch wheel and awl exclusively. Since then I have got to the 5/32 diamond stitching chisel. It works pretty well for what I'm doing. Sometimes I chisel through both layers and other times I chisel through the front layer only and finish up with my awl. Not sure on what the stitch per inch the 5/32 chisels are, but it has to be somewhere around 4-5. It looks pretty good for the thicker Tejas thread. I am going to order some Barbour's at some point...I just have a spool and a half of the Tejas left, so I'm going to wait til I get closer before I order some. This is just what has worked for me...ymmv.

Jack, sorry for all these follow-up questions, but I have a final question regarding the size 2 harness needles you are using. I normally buy from Springfield or Tandy, and I have only seen sizes 0, 00, and 000. Where do you get the size 2 needles from? I have seen some size 2 and 4 John James harness needles on ebay at around $10 for 25. Seems like a reasonable price.

Thanks again for all this additional information you are sharing.

John James size 2 harness are my choice. I started with the Tandy needles, but they seemed to be brittle and break easily. Hobby Lobby sells a RealLeather brand of stitching needles that are ok, a lot less brittle than the Tandy ones. You can't go wrong with John James IMO. I just looked them up on their website www.jjneedles.com and they're listed as 55 mm, so actually a little over 2 inches. No problem with the follow ups, hope it helps.

They all lok good!!.....just the stitchline around the trigger guard should follow more the contour of your gun.....you have some space there and if the glue finally loosen up you will have some play there.....just a thought!

Hey Jimbob, thanks for the comment. These Glock 22's have a square trigger guard in the front. There is no glue in there. In fact, I guess it's the angle that the pics were taken, but if you look at them straight on, the square trigger guard follows the stitch line. Must be an illusion from that angle.
