Motorcycles and Biker Gear
Not all saddlebags are on horses! Bikers like quality gear they can depend on, and making and maintaining hard used leather is a challenge to any leatherworker. Show off your work! Teach the world how leatherworkers make bikes beautiful.

I just finished this for my brother. It's the first piece I completed worth sharing. It's made from 5/6 oz. veg tan and dyed with Fiebing's USMC Black. I used mink oil and Resolene to finish. The gussets and straps were saddle stitched. I intentionally left the edges unfinished. That stark raw edge and black had a certain appeal to me on this bag. I owe a lot of you regulars here a big thank you for all the tips on hand-stitching and dyeing. I'm constantly reading and trying new techniques. Here are pics, feel free to add comments on construction, finish, etc.

Sweat cuffs for my Biker friend. I just wanted to THANK my friends on LWN for their help with my concerns for this project. I have completed what I hope will be a good solution for him. and that it will be a positive influince on his wrists. I first made a 3-4oz veg tan lining strap the size of his wrist, Then using terry cloth I sewed a sleve to go over that strap. Next I made the outer strap from Latigo, just long enough to go over the inner, but still tight enough for support. And, using Velcro I was able to hold it all together at various points, so the inner strap will be removable in order to remove the sleeve for washing when needed. I used Gum …

Just wanted to show off a couple of recent projects I've done. The first is a seat for my 2008 Lance Vintage Scooter. I used 9-12 oz veg tan saddle skirting. Solid copper rivets, and my first attempt at hand lacing. For the lacing, I wanted it to stand out but not be huge lace so I first laced with single filament nylon thread for strength then went back over it with 1mm round leather lace. I also am testing using actual copper wire as a lace. It's supposed to be corrosion proof but I wanted to test this one something for me before ever using it on something I would sell. 2 months later and so far so good. I didn't want to damage the original seat so I made this as mor…

I have a question, a friend of us came with this seat. I never done anything like this before main is solo seats and belts. Guess this is more like a upholstery kind of thing. He would like to have 2 skull's on the top tooled with some basketweave. Do I have to use thin leather for the sides, because I think when 2 persons sit on it maybe the entire thing sinks to the bottom . Can I use thick leather on the top and thin leather on the sides? He would like to have also lacing to adjust the skull tooled parts to the sides. The bottom of it is with staples, but should I put the thing together first and then pull it over the seat, like some kind of cover or do I have to attac…

I have a good friend of mine who wants me to recover the seat for his Triumph. He wants a custom carved seat with Sailor Jerry flash art. I am confident in getting the carving completed but have some questions about the dyeing process. He wants the carving to have color (same as the actual flash art). My question is....Can I use Tandys Cova Colors (waterbased) to add the required color, and then finish the rest of the seat with Fiebings professional oil dye?
