Guess you do not know about stiching. no hole punch used. Techsew 5100 used.

Found a guy on Ebay, skin and scales. Does great work. I buy direct from him now many at a time.
-
This shows the soft leather inside the sheath. it is a complete lining inside no metal contact with the knife.
-
No, Lizard was glued on after the wet forming was dry. The sheath has 3 layers inside soft goat skin, then wet formed leather, outside lizard skin on the folding knife sheaths. It requires that you make special forms to press the goat skin and lizard to the formed leather.

I bought a brand new Techsew SK -5 skiver. Delivered yesterday. All arrived good as far as shipping, no damage.I un packed the item, the stand and motor were all new. I then un packed the Skiver and noticed the black v belt was frayed and chunks were out of the belt. Upon further inspection, the sharp stone was used. the inside of the machine was dirty from the belt dust. The post was scratched and chipped. The belt that runs the grinder was also coming apart. one of the caution stickers on the outside had oil soaked on it. Looks like they sent me a used or a returned machine, not new as ordered for the $2680.00 I paid for it incl shipping. What do you guys think I should do about this? Of course by the time I found this out they were closed for the weekend so I could not call them. Tough to send it back as it is a heavy item and needs a lot of special packing, and who pays for it? My idea was to ask for the used belts and grinding wheel to be replaced and discount the item to me since it is used and not new. Any Ideas? will send pictures for you to see if you think it is used.

Anybody ever try ALD (American leather direct) They have wholesale accounts.

I use to do the snap thing also, till I had a customer say the snap came un done also when he sat down. So now I just put the belt loop on them unless a customer ask for a snap or clip. Never had a belt loop come un done.

This is a special sheath, for a collector Buck knife 124. dyed blue lizard to match handle Silver chicago screws to match guard. Special Star snap. Do you think it is to much ?

just the sheath, I have all the knives that I make sheaths for. Or customers send me a knife and I make a sheath to fit their knife, if I do not have it.

I just got in some tanned rattlesnake skins. that are not glycerin preserved, you can see the difference. no tack holes, they are perfectly dry, no oil feel , the flesh side is dry and almost white. They lay flat no curl.

Made a couple Sheaths today that fit a Buck 110 folder knife. These are lined inside with soft goatskin, no metal contact with your knife. Coversd outside with real tanned Diamond back rattlesnake skin. Used 2 to 3 ounce veg tan leather. stiched with 277 thread. Takes me about 1 hour to make one. Any thoughts for improvement?

I work a lot with snake skins, the glycerin method is not tanning. It only preserves the skin. True tanning turns the skin to leather. I will not buy glycerin preserved skins for leather work. Hard to glue, and they have a yellow look to them. The skins I get from my supplier are flat and almost white looking on the flesh side. He holds his formula very close. will not tell anybody how he does it. But I am in leather work not tanning business. So best to just buy the skins from him.

Made this pure white Sheath today, with gold snap, chicago screws, and gold stiching. Let me know what you think.

Looking to get a techsew SK-5 or Cobra NP-10. My question is can it skive at an angle from 12 oz down to 2 oz in one inch skive. Or do they only skive flat. All the Demos I see show skivers removing leather so you can fold and sew. I want to taper the skive down . If anyone has these machines please let me know before ai spend a couple thousand to find out it does not do what I want.

A General Question about Springfield Leather, Tandy, and Weavers
Leathershark replied to Gosut's topic in Suppliers
If you just want leather, look into American Leather Direct. I have a wholesale account. Have had good luck and srvice with them. -
Item sold local. thank you for looking.

That is easy. just use 10 to 12 ounce leather, try and get it the same distance as the guard to the blade. Skive this piece about 1 inch down to 2 ounce. This piece is width of the sheath and about 3 inch long. Put your welt on top of it, then put your cover on top of that. This is then put on the back part of the sheath. You now havw a slot that the blade fits in. If you want a picture let me know.
