New belt and wallet
workingman replied to workingman's topic in Purses, Wallets, Belts and Miscellaneous Pocket Items
Dirtclod, Thanks for the kind words. As far as the dyeing process I took some advise from one of the other members here, I dyed everything brown first and then laid the black down with a brush. I gave me a better looking black. The brush is helpfull around the letters. I have a stack of brushes I use for this all different sizes. Hope that helps. Matt -

Hey Big Papa, Sweet wallet !!!! Quick question, What kind of material do you use as a liner and what type of adhesive do you use on that. Thanks Matt

I was happy and nervous about doing this seat. Happy because this image is a piece of Hot Rod history and well known. Nervous because its well known and I could really make it look bad if it wasn't done right. In the end it came out sweet. Hope you enjoy the pics.matt

Awesome seat David. Do you have a write up anywhere on how you do the lacing. I have never tried a weave like that and would like to try but I would like to learn from someone who does seats. Thanks

I love doing old flash and prettying up the women a little. Cause the some of the women in some of that old flash had bulging foreheads. Anyways here's my take ON the Sailor Jerry poison flash. On a Flyrite chopper seat.

Thanks for the compliment! I use fiebing's oil dye, It did take time to get it to look right thou. black is hard to do i think . I typically put two coats on right away and let it sit for about 24hrs, then take it out in the sun to find what I call blue spots. then I hit the blue spots once and then once more over the whole thing again. That usually gives me a good looking black. Hope that helped Matt

This was a fun seat to do, It's on it's way to one of our army bases in Iraq. The solider has a 3/4 chopper he's scooting around on over there and wanted something fun and cool to add to it. Hope you enjoy. Matt

First try at a wallet. It has some flaws in it but it's all about the learning experience right? I don't know if this is the right place to post this question. but could I ask one of the seasoned leather smiths,"what do handmade wallets like this sell for . I have customers asking and I just have no clue where to start at. Thanks for any advice. Matt

That there is a sweet ass seat!! Great design and tooling !

Thanks for all the compliments guys. The design is off of a vans T-shirt that my customer brought to me. I had to alter it a bit to make it fit the seat but I do love the way it came out. Thanks again

Just about done with this seat. I still need to go over it with one more coat of dye then seal it up.

Thanks for the compliment! I am sure you'll be right along side me in no time. I still have a long way to go to be as good as some of the leather workers out there. All in time thou, right?
