Frame

I have burnt a verse on some hard leather fro my hubby and he wants it framed. Can someone tell me how to do it please? Preferably a tutorial to follow?
2. I am sorry these are not western style but you are welcome to have them. You cover the postage? It will be coming from SA.
3. HI , Thanks so much. Thats perfect. What is the minimum thickness one can tool or stamp on? Rookie
4. Hi all, Begging to use your know how again. I want to make a visitors book for our boat. The idea is to use normal A4 size paper with a screw bolt (not sure if that is what it would be called) but so that you can add papers when necessay. I thought if I used two pieces of hard board or something. Padded them and covered them in engraved Leather with name etc. (very ambitios for this beginner) Then the screws would go through that and right through the papers to hold it together. These are my questions: Is there a way I can still give it a spine of sorts to make it look more finished but still have access to use screws and allow for extra paper? How to I punch the paper for the screws without sitting with a paper punch for hours? Can it be drilled through? Can someone explain to me the weight of leather and how to choose which one is best to stampoing etc. I know most of it is worked in ounches and stuff but I am metric is ther a metric explanantion. So if leather is 0.3oz what does that mean? Thanks, hope someone can help. Regards Alison
5. No pattern or pictures on mine either
6. Wow! Great tutorial, beautifully displayed and explained. Thank you.
7. I have another question while I am here I am making a credit card holder for a friend and want to dye it but do not want the intered stiffener piece I have covered in leather to also get stained. But the main pieces must be well covered. Is there any reason I can't dye it before I put it together and sew it?
8. Hi All I have tried many times to get a press stud to stay on my item. Everytime ist seems attached but after one or two uses it pulls out. I can't figure out what I am doing wrong Any tips? Thanks:helpsmilie:

10. I want to make a leather cover for our boats log book. It is A4 size only about 1cm thick and has soft cover. The soft cover makes me unsure what the best option would be. Any ideas? Thanks.
11. Hi Storm, Great tut thanks. I also couldn't download the pattern I am keep to do one that I printed a name on but obviously one doesn't want to go huge...lol Like the person's yachts name or something! Any tips? Alison
12. Thank you both for your reply. The answers lead to another question! I was told you just damp the surface of the leather before you stamp just wet enough that it starts to change color, but from the posts I have read and your answers it siounds s if the leather is wetter than that! How wet should I make it?
13. Hi all, If I am planning to dye a belt I want to stamp a design onto which do I do first? Stamp or dye? Help?
14. I made a friend a purse for her birthday. Stamped Roses onto it with her initial and tried to paint them. What a disaster!!! I don't kow if the roses were too small (I paint on canvass and never had a problem) It was totally horrible now I must start again. Does anyone else paint a stamped picture or how would one do it. A purse is not very big. Slghtly bigger than credit card. It was a special request to hold a card and a few notes only and slip into a jean pocket without making a lump. So small and very flat! The stamps did not make a deep impression hence my decision to paint them. Bad move.. Any suggestions?? Thanks Alison
15. Hi not really a replica as the original had roses and leaves on which were beyond me. Tooled I think. The stitches are just decorative. Thanks for comments.
16. Hi Did my first yacht project. Put shroud protectors on to stop the sail cover being chafed. Was quite chuffed even if I do say so myself.
17. Hi all I had a request to replace a belt using the original buckle. This is my first attempt at a stamped and dyed belt. What cha all think? Before dyeing After dyed
18. Thanks all for your feed back and ideas. They all look great now I will just have to make more than one..
19. I want to make a wide belt about 80mm (8 - 8.5 cm) but I do not have or want a buckly that wide. Any ideas how to narrow it to a "normal" width buckle? I looked at just tapering but it looks wrong, anyone done that already?

Stamping tools

I have found in most "tutorials" they assume you know which tool they are talking about or which stamp. Is there something somwhere thats shows which stamp you would use to do what? I have a basic set but the instructions only show how to create patterns where it is obvious which tool they use but there are others that I have no idea what they are supposed to do! Thanks.
22. That is beautiful, so thoughtfull. She must have been delighted, I would have been.
23. HI friends Its the lack of ideas woman again. I have been given 6 or so old leather holsters by someone. Varying sizes from a small .22 revolver size to a 9mm. Other than wash and oil them as not a huge market for them here. What else could I do with them? My inexperience and lack of imagination leaves me blank!
24. Ray you have awesome ideas. Can you post yourself over to me please so I can turn on when I need new ones. Love the Bosuns bag idea for up the mast I bought leather for it yesterday will post the results. The keyrings are also cool. You say pens to color leather. My inexperience is showing again. What "pens" does one use that don't rub off? Do you then seal them? with what if not oiled? Most ropes outside of yachts and very few are wooden these days. Not much plave on mast to hang ropes with leather that will not be almost permanantly wet. Well not on our size.. 40' Barry those are great ideas when we get to the "big yacht world" lol not many in our area with that sort of money. We are on a 40" sail yacht. An Island Spirit.
25.
Ok ignoramus here had to google "Scrimshaw". For anyone else who doesn't know I pasted it below. Thanks UKRay! Scrimshaw

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Jump to: navigation, search A small collection of ScrimshawScrimshaw is the name given to handiwork created by whalers made from the byproducts of harvesting marine mammals. It is most commonly made out of the bones and teeth of Sperm Whales, the baleen of other whales, and the tusks of walruses. It takes the form of elaborate carvings in the form of pictures and lettering on the surface of the bone or tooth, with the engravings highlighted using a pigment, or small sculptures made from the same material. The making of scrimshaw began on whaling ships between 1817 to 1824 on the Pacific Ocean, and survived until the ban on commercial whaling. The practice survives as a hobby and as a trade for commercial artisans. A maker of scrimshaw is known as a scrimshander. [1] Scrimshaw is also a surname.
