  1. I am looking for a tutorial or advise as to how to install a zipper in a leather project that a Brother Mason asked me to make. It is an Apron case that he wants two zippers used to open and secure the case. I have never made anything with a zipper before and this is kinda intimidating for me. Thanks in advance to anyone willing to help me. Warning I am a visual person !
  2. I recently completed a project for a friend and it turned out pretty good, but I noticed that when i touched it with moisture on my hands the dye came off, this project is designed to be worn on a shirt so this is not good for a white or light colored shirt!!. I am new to leather working and have learned pretty much by trial and error and watching and listening in the background on this forum. I am frustrated when it comes to finishes. I see positive comments about this and not so positive comments about that. So...... tell me what you are using to seal your projects please. Can you use it with Eco-Flo products? Can you thin it? what is the trend now? I dyed the project with Eco-Flo at first, then (after it dried), i used Fiebings on it to correct the goof Eco-Flo caused (I am not real happy with Eco-Flo lately). I then tried to use Tan-Kote to seal / protect the finish, but it didn't seem to do anything to protect it. I went to my local craft store and saw "Saddle-Lac" spray, is this the same as Neat-Lac, and will it work? Thanks ahead of time, Ron
  3. I second that Idea, it would be an awesome thing to do and have access to.
  4. I too would like ideas for a display type business card holder.
  5. beanthere, Thanks for the tools, I received them yesterday and there are exactly as you described. I am trying to think of something I can made where I can use them. Thanks again Ron
  6. Yes thank you for posting that link. I made myself a ticket book several years ago, (very basic) it was my first leather tooling project ever ! (as you can see from the photo) and I recycled a ticket book that I had for years. I want to make a few for some of the guys at work and have been trying to find a source. Those are the very ones that I was looking for too. Billin, could you post photos of some of your work on ticket books. I would like to see some of your work. Also what do you use for the backing that prevents the writing pressure to going through to the pages below. The old ticket book, I recycled had a thin piece of metal that was used. I have looked for something that was stiff enough, but not too thick to do the same, any ideas. Thanks
  7. Great Job, I would like to see pictures for other angles too. This something that I have considered doing, but was not sure about it is put together. I truly like this one. Do you have any sketches or before and after photos that you might share with others here?
  8. I am very new to leather tooling and have had no formal training. I have been learning from reading and I finally decided to take the plunge and try a couple of things. I made a Bible Cover for my wife at Christmas, the braiding was the hardest part I thought. I decided to make one for me this past weekend and thought it turned out close to what I imagined. How am I doing for a start. I do want to try a floral pattern, but am a little scared and don't have a pattern to start with any ideas? Thanks for all input, I am open to suggestions, thanks for the time folks. Ron
  9. There are some good ideas here. I use the stufff that you line your kitchen drawers with. I don't recall the name, but you can get rolls of it at Wal-Mart cheap. It is sticky on one side, but easy to remove when you are done. Just thought of the name is "contact paper"!! man how the brain gets slower every year
