  1. Hey Guys, What a great place to sit with a cup of Joe! I am a rookie with only 4 saddles under my belt, so when I comment I want that up front. It seems to me and also it was the way I was taught, when building a saddle-- build it to last not to build for easy repair. ( Hope that does not come across wrong ) I might look at things differently if I start reparing more often though. 40 years ago my Dad bought me a Ted Aldal saddle, what a great saddle, built to last! Now it needs new wool. I will not mind taking a little extra time with getting the old stuff off. I figure I will use contact cement like on a new one. Again a rookie-- Why is wall Paper paste good for swell covers and horn covers? Thanks Billy
  2. Hey JW, Man that is a good looking Rig! May I ask how you sew the inside half circle of your rigging ring, you do such a nice job of it. The one thing that always stands out on your saddles that I have been admiring is your seat profile, it just looks like you could ride all day. Great job! Billy
  3. Steve, First off- I would like to THANK YOU for your posting on a all leather ground seat. I made my little girl a pony saddle with your method and it turned out great. I do have a dumb question though- why do we need risers, I know it must be obvious, some times I am a little slow. One more question- After you cut the stirrup slots, does this make the ground seat weeker at that area of the ground seat? Thankyou again for all your postings I have really enjoyed them. Billy
  4. That is a beautiful saddle!!! Regards Billy
  5. Ben and Chris, Thanks for your responses! I kinda figured that I may have asked a really dumb question for the lack of a response until today. Over all I am pretty happy with the saddle. Ben I think that you are right on target with what I could have improved on. !. Just a little to much rise and the rise to far back in the seat 2. Maybe a little to round where the pin bones sit. First couple of hours the saddle feels ok but as the ride goes on I start to feel the pin bone area. The rise is not a ball buster just think I could improve on it. Thanks for your thoughts, maybe my 9 year old can show me how to post a picture!
  6. Hello, Lots of experience on this forum, I have really enjoyed reading and looking at all the posting on saddles. I have a crazy question---- Is it possible to reshape a ground seat on a saddle that is already built? I am asking because I built my first saddle and after 15 rides or so I think I could have shaped the seat better. As soon as I figure out how to add a picture I will add that to this post. Thanks Billy
