Quick Draw Sheath
builderofstuff replied to builderofstuff's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
I made another one of those quick draw sheaths, this time patterned specifically for the Buck 110, but it's a tad bigger than what it needs to be so I put this one up for sale and I'm going to re-pattern it. But I like the way it turned out. The belt loop on this one has a hole on both sides so the concho can be switched from side to side depending on how it's going to be worn. Chris -
Quick Draw Sheath
builderofstuff replied to builderofstuff's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
I could just scan it, but I'm not sure how to get it sized so that when it's printed it will be accurate. Ideally I'd like to be able to scan it, put it into a pdf and then you could just print it, but I'm still trying to figure out how to get it sized right. -

I'll try and find a good way to get the pattern into the computer, may take me a little while though. Chris it's a rope stamp from tandy. I don't remember the number right off hand. Chris -
I do quite a bit of machining and I thought it would be fun to make a swivel knife, but I've never attempted it. I like the one you made though, very nice. Chris

I really like this, and that idea you came up with for the leather latch is really cool. Chris -

Yeah I carry an assisted opening knife myself, but I also have a Buck 110 that I'd like to make a case like this for. They are fun to make, look neat, and are just interesting in how they work. But this particular project came about because of several reasons. One I'd seen them on here by others and thought it would be fun, and two I thought it would be nice if he had a sheath for his old lockblade and I thought it was a perfect opportunity to make one. With Christmas coming up and money being really tight this year a lot of people are going to be getting handmade leather items from me for presents. -
I really didn't do anything to the inside other than apply some gum tragacanth to make it smooth. I didn't dye it or put in any kind of liner. Part of the reason for this is while I designed it to fit his diabetic meter and such he may very well find another use for it entirely, whether that might be holding tools or supplies for bowhunting, etc. So I didn't really go all out on the inside.. I was thinking that I might make some and put them on my etsy page since it was patterned to hold the ReliOn test strip container, micro meter, and lancet, and still have enough room for some additional items, like extra lancets and alcohol swabs. Chris I don't know about camo leather, but you could definately decorate it up nice, there's lots of flat spaces, at least on the one I made. My intention was to make myself one as well, but it's so much more enjoyable making things for other people and seeing how much they like them. I just got an email from my future mother in law and she said he loved it and that he was already using it. hahaha Chris

I never thought about it until you brought it up but I think it's a brilliant idea.

Quick Draw Sheath

Yeah I know it's been around a good while. But sometimes we have to make something for the fun of it. Luckily they aren't illegal here in my state, at least not from what I saw in the state knife laws. I'm a bit confused by the "gimic design that doesn't work very well" part though. Seems to work really well to me. Again, it was something that I made because I saw it in another post here and I thought it would be a fun project. Chris -
Quick Draw Sheath

No the rivet has a bushing around it so that it doesn't touch the metal rivet. My first choice would have been a chicago screw, but I didn't have any. -
Made this for my fiance's Dad as a Christmas present. This was my first attempt at a sheath like this and I couldn't be happier with the way it turned out. I had to come up with an excuse to get the knife from him so I took several of his knives and told him I'd sharpen them for him. hahaha I'd like to say thanks to some of the members here for posting their quick draw sheaths, they were the inspiration for this one. These pictures are terrible, and one thing that I am really disappointed in is one of the initials I messed up because when I stamped it the letter stamp jumped a bit and messed it up. But I'm sure he'll still like it. Chris

These pictures are terrible, and don't really do it justice, but I wanted to post them anyway because it's been a while since I posted anything. I made this as a birthday present for my fiance's Dad, who like me is a diabetic. We both use the same glucose meter from walmart and so I had everything on hand to work out the size. So I whipped this up for him tonight. Hope he likes it.

Awesome work! Definitely one to be proud of. Chris -
I just made one yesterday, and later I'm going to be working on a patter for some intended for the Buck 110. I'll try and get you some pictures. There was however a thread on here with some really good pictures already, which is what I used as my inspiration. Chris

Leather Holster Forming (Vacuum Versus Press)
builderofstuff replied to JP1's topic in Leather Tools
I've tried vacuum forming but didn't have a lot of success. That being said I think it was because of the actual way I was going about it, not the process itself so much. So I would think it would be possible, I just haven't gotten around to trying it again. Chris -

I'm going to attempt to make one of these as a Christmas present for my future father in law. I really like the design and I think he'll really like it. I had to come up with an excuse to get my hands on his lockblade so I told him I was going to take some of his knives and sharpen them for him. hahaha Thanks for the inspiration. Chris -
Cor Et Manus Wallet

Wow I love that wallet. Excellent work! What ounce leather did you use? Is it all hand carved? Chris -
I was wondering if anyone has ever made any of those headbands that women wear on top of their heads to keep their hair pulled back. My fiance really likes wearing those and I thought that making her some for Christmas might be nice. Does anyone have any information on making those? Thanks, Chris
