coolness. I never knew about CL nationwide. tired of searching city by city. I find my old line finisher VERY useful, but that is because I modified it. I don't use the sanding wheels. can't stand the bumpy ride from the seam/join. I use a Burr King belt grinder for all my sanding. lots of power, very fast and easy to change belts, easy to reconfigure with different sized contact wheels or a flat grinding surface, plus very useable for woodwork and metalwork. Since I am not sanding with mine, I removed the dust collector and built in shelving down below. leaving me with lots of storage underneath a long spinning shaft on which I can mount all sorts of useful goodies. Polishing brushes, surface burnishing wheels, edge burnishing wheels, multi-groove edge burnishing cylinders, only sander I ever mount on it is a heel breast wheel. since I have that nice long shaft to mount so many options on I normally have mine configured with 3 multi-groove edge burnishing cylinders. one for black, one for browns, and one for undyed leather. Never discard something just because most folks figure it is useless or obsolete. Think about your needs and figure out if you can make it useful to you before discarding it.

Where are you located? What kind of compensation do you have in mind? What kind of volume do you anticipate?

Oh yes, found a great facility down here, 22x40 main shop floor with 20' ceiling, 22x20 clean room with bathroom and shower downstairs , and 22x 22 upstairs offices and bathroom. upstairs has a window overlooking the main shop floor. (Might install a firepole for quick access to the workshop!) Shop has 300 amp electrical service, and due to a glitch, is billed at a residential rate instead of commercial rate. It also has a large paved area out front under a roof where the shop could be expanded in the future if need be. construction wouldn't cost too much, as the roof and floor are already in place. The equipment is currently stored there, waiting to set up shop until I find a partner to share it with or find a partner elsewhere that I need to move closer to

Line Finisher For Sale This is part of the machinery and equipment that came out of the Safety Speed Holster factory, in Bullhead, AZ. This is one of the machines Safety Speed used for burnishing their edges. I know that they used Tip Top Finishing Wax originally to finish their edges, but the company that produced it it long since closed it's doors. After that they had Hauthaway analyze and reproduce the wax for them. I am in talks with Hauthaway about producing this again, and I should have it available for purchase soon, in black, neutral, some browns and some burgundy/cordovan shades as well. All depends on what their minimum orders are. I will post as soon as I have them available. I cannot find any marking for what brand it is, but it is probably Landis, Champion or American. This comes complete with 1.5 horsepower motor, drive belts, 1 sanding wheel and 2 sanding cylinders, one buffing/polishing wheel, 2 edge burnishing wheels, dust collection fan and ducting, upper shelf. I will change one of the edge burnishing wheels out for another sanding wheel if you prefer. This machine can be used for sole sanding, edge sanding and profiling, buffing and polishing, edge burnishing, flesh side burnishing and many other processes. Attachments wheels, abrasives and other supplies for this machine are available from several sources including: United Global Supply, Saderma, Landis International, Shoe Systems Plus, Pilgrim Shoe Machine Specifications: Motor: Baldor 1.5 Horse Power 1725 RPM 115volt or 230 volt (currently wired for 115 volt) Frame Dimmensions: 49" tall (64 1/2" with the shelf) 26" wide 62" long (68" with dust collector vent) Shelf: 59"x12" Shaft: 1 5/16" diameter 66" long Mounted on 3 roller bearings with grease fittings Weight: Approximately 400 pounds I am having multi-grooved burnishing cylinders produced for 1 5/16" shaft finishers now. they will function like the Weaver Edge Burnishers, but will need to be wrapped in canvas per Bobby/HidePounder's suggestion, as they are truned from steel instead of wood. I am waiting to hear back from the machinist before I can quote a price. The first batch should be ready any day now. Shipping: Due to the size and weight of this item, Local Pick Up, or Freight Service only. I can also deliver it within Southern California for a fee, which will vary depending upon how far you are from Wildomar/Lake Elsinore/Temecula area. All freight arrangements and costs are the responsibility of the buyer There is no loading dock or forklift available, so be sure that your freight carrier has a lift gate. Asking price $800

Looking For Partner In Holster/gun Leather Biz
Logans Leather replied to Logans Leather's topic in Help Wanted
I thought I would update this and give folks a bit more info. I recently purchased the Safety Speed Holster factory, which included literally tons of machines, tools, equipment, patterns, hardware & fasteners, and parts already cut waiting to be finished into hundreds of holsters, belts, and other assorted belt gear, including parts for hundreds of their signature clamshell holsters and the tools and machining to make more. I am seeking someone with the skills and drive to combine with my own to restart this business as one line of products while continuing and expanding our own lines. I bring over 20 years of leatherworking and design experience to the table, including holster work for private collectors, museums, law enforcement, private investigators, film and television. I have numerous contacts in law enforcement, cowboy action shooting and the film industry. I have produced items for Pirates of the Carribean, The Haunted Mansion, Firefly, Witchblade, Hook, Star Trek, Master and Commander, The Patriot, Planet of the Apes, The Chronicles of Riddick, Drawn to Kill, CSI, IBM, Harrison Ford, Steven Spielberg, Limp Biskit, Tamia, Aerosmith, Julie Strain, Smashing Pumpkins, Korn, IBM, Well, Fargo, The Frasier Historical Arms Museum, The Royal Armouries, and more. I have a very well equipped workshop including multiple sewing machines skivers, splitters, line finishers, hydraulic forming presses, 20 ton clicker, punch presses, cutting dies, forming molds & dies, compressors, projectors, grinders, buffers, burnishers, hammers, mauls, stamps, knives, hand tools and more. The recent acquisition has left me with too much shop to handle alone and far too many product ideas to produce alone. So I am looking for someone to join forces with in southern California. I would prefer to set up near my current home in Wildomar, CA, but my wife and I are willing to consider moving for the good of the business. We'd just rather not have to move over 14 tons of shop! This is a brief breakdown of what I have to offer a partnership. If you are interested in discussing a merger, PM me with a list of what you have to offer, and perhaps we can set up a time to meet and discuss the possibilities. -

Bayonet fitting for the one on the end and the larger cylinder will slide onto the shaft and mount with 2 hex drive machine screws

I'm having the burnishing cylinder turned out of steel. I plan to cover mine with canvas as per Hidepounder's set up. It occurred to me that if they are wrapped with canvas, then there is no need to make them out of wood. This way I can make them not too much bigger than the shaft itself I think my outside diameter is 2 1/8". I think I will also mount an adapter for the end of the shaft so I can mount a small diameter wood burnished for very tight inside curves.

I can't tell you what model of finisher that is, but I can tell you that I have the same one! It is a fairly simple matter to modernize it a bit by changing out the flat drive belt wheels for v belt wheels. There are lots of attachments for these machines that make them very valuable in a modern leather shop. I use mine for polishing, buffing and both edge burnishing and flesh side burnishing to flatten and smooth out the leather fibers giving a very finished look. I am even having a multi-grooved edge burnishing cylinder made for mine, and I will be producing more for sale, specifically designed to fit on 1 5/16" finisher shafts. So don't lose heart, it's a great machine with lots of potential if you make the right changes. The clicker, I would run screaming away from. Mechanical clickers which draw their cutting force from a spinning fly wheel like this one are potentially dangerous, and there is a good reason they are all made to use hydraulics or pneumatics now. I might be interested in the clicker dies if you want to sell them. Send me pics.

Logans Leather replied to Logans Leather's topic in Computer Help
Oops! I just realized I left out a step in this process. The correct procedure is as follows: Batch Resize in Photoshop CS4 Batch resizing of images: 1. Create a new destination folder for your resized images 2. Open Photoshop CS4 3. click [File] 4. click [scripts] in the drop down menu 5. click [image Processor] in the drop down menu 6. click [select Folder] or click [use Open Images] if you have several images open that you wish to resize 7. select the folder you wish to resize 8. click [select Folder] 9. select the destination folder you previously created 10. click box labeled: [save as JPEG] or [save as PSD] or [save as TIFF] 11. select your image quality 12. select your image size (in pixels) 13. click box labeled: [Resize to Fit] 14. click box labeled: [Run Action] if you wish to modify images further as a batch 15. click run 16. sit back and watch and enjoy as Photoshop does all the work for you and saves them in a nice, new, appropriately named folder.- 2 replies

Selecting Leather For Molding / Wet Forming
Logans Leather replied to MikeG's topic in How Do I Do That?
For covering a horseshoe, just about any cut of veg tan cow will do. avoid the nice stiff center back areas, as these will be the worst for forming, and a bit of a waste for forming. Use them for belts and straps. Belly is good to use when extreme forming is needed, as is the case for traditional Italian Comedia del Arte masks. Veg tan sheep also has wonderful abilities to conform to molding, and has a very fine grain. Hope this helps -

I have a question: Not to sound terribly uppity, but do you really want to make a "baldric" that looks like this, or would you prefer to make one that more closely resembles a baldric that was actually worn at some point in history? This piece screams: "Pirate festival participant!" to me. I have made numerous baldrics and sword belts, and would be happy to help you come up with a more accurate design and assist you in getting historically correct buckles and hardware if you like.

All right. I gotta at least see this adult section.

Greetings all. I recently bought out the remains of the "Safety Speed" holster factory. I am adding their machines and tools to my own shop, but find myself in need of more space. I am looking for a partner to share shop space with in the Inland Empire area of southern California. We can share shop space and build up a business together and continue our own lines of products as well, if you want. We would, of course, have to meet first and see each others' work and see if we can form a mutually beneficial arrangement. PM me if you are interested
