My Take On Belt Tunnels
PHIPPS CRAFTED LEATHER replied to Sanch's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
Stealfdawg, I was not saying you copied a design, my appologies. My comment was in reference to leaving a portion of the trigger exposed. I had made a regular pancake style and had left the trigger of a Glock 19 partially exposed. A buddy of mine had pointed out the possibility of an accidental discharge. I'm not aware of the workings of that type of weapon and only wanted to make the comment, sorry for any confusion. I was not very clear. -
My Take On Belt Tunnels
PHIPPS CRAFTED LEATHER replied to Sanch's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
Great looking rig, color and construction etc... Only thing I see and it's from a holster I had made previously, is the trigger being partially exposed. IMHO. -
I'll check and see thanks, have some beautiful colors; purple, black, blue, distressed brown, tan, etc.. and in different weights, and he's bringing me another load. I've told him I only used veg tan leather but he wants me to try some for shoulder holster straps. I told him next time she goes into the "VAULT" to try and find horse hide, her company produces some very expensive horse hide shoes. I'm thinking I might try a basic leather vest or two maybe some bags, I don't know.

Cutting Woes
PHIPPS CRAFTED LEATHER replied to Guy W's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
For my two cents and because I'm still learning I use my swiss army knife, an officers model. Great thin blades very strong, either the small or large blade and easy to sharpen. Have used it to cut 8/9 oz and heavy harness leather, it makes a great clean cut. -
Alright, I hope this is a poor mans brain storm, I was in my new Hobby Lobby in Hanover, Pa (in case noboby local to there knew it opened) and I spy with my eye (ah, ha) spindles in numerous shapes and sizes made from birch. And $1.42 a bag. I'm thinking and hoping that after a little lite sanding these would make great egde burnishers that could be attached to any number or power tools.

I would be interested, let me know. Thanks.

I have a question about pressure moulding too. I have always just used my hands and I like the results, but have been wondering about making a vacum press using a small vacum pump and a homemade chamber. If you look at modeling web sites you can make a vacum chamber easily. My question is I realize it will remove the air from the chamber and I assume suck the water out of the leather, but my concern is that it may really shrink the leather to much. Anybody else have this idea?

Niche Market
PHIPPS CRAFTED LEATHER replied to Lobo's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
To date every holster I have made except 2 ( Sig 232 and XD .40) has been for a out of date or not main stream pistol. 1st was for a Bersa Ultra Compact .45, 2nd was a CZ 82, 3rd was for a Sig P6, 4th will be for a 3" Lady Smith .38. Newest orders are for Glocks -19 and 27, a Walther 22 w/ a Silencer pouch. So it has been various. I enjoy the non main stream, here in PA were the Right to Bear Arms is alive and STRONG. -
Hello all, I just received my first IWB holster request and have a few concerns. Won't the holster flaten out after repeated wear. Does the extra leather at the holster mouth ( summer special style ) help in the long run. I assume the use of spring steel or plastic will keep it open longer. It seems obvious to me that the holster will flaten out and make re-holstering (?) more difficult. I just really don't know the answers so I am coming here for guidance.
