  1. Johanna ,i just started doing seat not even less than yr ago.the way i got my buniess is ebay losing money on seats here and there.got a few customers i did seats for locally.couldnt afford to get a website going so advetisied on craigslist free.got some buniess this way to.i made a bunch of cheap buniess cards and within a 3 town radius i passed them out everywhere bars, dunkin donuts, carwashes, gas pumps, bars ,chopper shops.even dropped them off at one of the local hells angel hangouts lol..got one seat displayed at a tandy store and just as of yesterday im doing some seats for local harley davidson shop.which im really pumped about.so more less its been word of mouth for me.i need to network more.this a part time job for me.since i do work more than 65 hrs week at my real job a week, hopefully some day i could go full time.dont know if this helps the topic, but its my 2 cents on what i have done to promote the leather buniess.. thanks Dan
  2. well there really a couple ways you could do it really.if its a 2 part seat obviously one at a time.i usually cut along the stitch line and use that as my top pattern or the stitch line could be lower so you wouldnt hit ,when your sitting on it.lot guys cut a top and sides and rivet to the bottom of pan.some make a top piece and a bottom and sandwich it together, thats way i like doing it.you can have lace stitching or you could saddle stitching done.myself i like saddle stitching more than i like lace.but thats just personal preferance.are you lookin to do this yourself,or have someone do it for you?theres a lot of talent on here, good seatmakers beeza, myself, beaverslayer, dave t.just to name a few.anyway if your gonna give a try .thats cool.any questions i can help with just let me know thanks DAN
  3. billy thats some cool work man.espically eagle and the bike .real cool man..
  4. when i do a seat.i usual oil dye etc etc..after assembly is done.oil for the fact of putting the natural oils back into the leather between the casing and dyeing dries things out.i have oil before ,makes it a little softer, dont really know if it makes it easier or not.thats just been my experience with it..
  5. thats a cool write up on the seat dave.now by super glueing washers to the top of the pan when you push the rivet thru they dont pop up at all.i make the bottom part the same way by riveting the bottom without the washers but willing to try something diffrent.and the foam how much does the neoprene adhesive back stuff go for? thanks DAN
  6. lol.if you guys could see my set up.tv tray my marble tools all slide under the couch.wife works days on the weekend and and nights during the weekday.i have to make a makeshift shop when im home with my 2 yr old daughter samantha .she actually holds some of the tools[dont worry nothing sharp she could hurt herself with]and will actually pass to me.my real shop is in the basment.i will take some pics when i can...

  14. hi havent used much antique dye.not sure if this question is posted or not.i was curious what type of resist that would be good to use on a motorcycle seat.resolene or netlac waterproof at all.i usually seal all my seat with pecards leather dressing.but never used it on a bike seat before.same with antique dye.wanted to show off my tooling more.instead just strait dye.didnt know if anybody could shed some light on the subjects.thanks very much...
