  1. WOW! that is beautiful! seriously, keep up the good work.
  2. I love the design for the side panels, very different! Glad to see that you obviously still have it in you after that long. Keep at it! i want to see more.
  3. WOW! the layout of your design is beautiful. The tooling itself is even more beautiful. Great job!
  4. First off thank you everyone for the compliments, they are greatly appreciated. Craig, i actually used my machine for all the sewing, the chap leather is very hard to penetrate with an awl in my opinion so i figured i might as well use the machine. For the cross i didnt even use the motor, i just spun the handwheel watching where every stitch went. Also as you can see in the one photo i used tape to mark off a nice straight line to follow as i stitched on the liner. I'm sure your strap will be just as nice as mine, plus if its a gift from father to son it doesnt need to be perfect haha, it's the thought that counts. thanks again for the compliment, hope to see a strap from yourself soon!
  5. Thanks Moeg and Rohn, yeah i wanted to do something different than the traditional 1 piece carving leather guitar strap, and the cross inlay is in there because the strap is a christmas gift for my cousin who plays guitar for the church all the time, so i figured what better opportunity to inlay a cross than that. Thanks again for the kind words
  6. As the title says it's not finished, but i still felt like posting my progress. This is my first attempt at a guitar strap (it should be obvious) and im sure you'll be able to spot all of the flaws so far; but check back in a day or two and i should have pictures of it completely finished. Well......here it goes
  7. oh jeeze i got names mixed up. i didnt realize you were referring to eddie collins who was posting about the asian guy on youtube. thats who i was referring to, he has videos of him dyeing his work on youtube. sorry for the mix up, i cant believe i didnt see that.
  8. First off, absolutely amazing work!!!! it really is beautiful Bob. Everybody on this site speaks so highly of you and i can see why. I hate to de-rail the thread but i went and looked at some of Eddie's work and i noticed that he dyes not only his background but even his tooled surfaces with a brush, and it makes it look awesome in my opinion so i figured id ask how it is he did it. Is he using severely diluted brown spirit dye, oil dye, water based? im still pretty new to leather so i apologize if its obvious haha.
  9. thanks for the great advice, it really helps! But im not quite sure what a "french curve" is?
  10. well i've been practicing and this is my latest. I tried to lay out my vines and scrollwork like engravers do, instead of putting big leaves in it. it didnt really turn out great but i thought id share and try to get some advice
