  1. I bought a cheap edge beveled and ground off all of one side but the last bit. It allows you to make those sharp turns without issue.
  2. Shooter that is beautiful...I bet my wife wishes I saw one of your holsters about 3 or 4 years ago. If I had, I wouldn't have started making my own (and everyone else I know) and moved her car into the driveway and out of my "shop"! lol Bronson... For what it's worth - If you aren't able to get it the way you want it, on one of the ones I did, I actually sewed a small piece of leather on the underside of the strap in the shape of the thumb safety right below where the safety is located. On the outside you can see a small triangle of thread, but on the strap side there is a piece of leather below the safety that prevents it from being disengaged (even if you try to).
  3. Looks nice. I apologize that I am at work and didn't read all the replies, but the only thing I see that would benefit both holster and gun is to use something for a sight channel. I cut up one of my wife's plastic coat hangars (different lengths based on the barrel length - end of barrel to back of ejection port) and tape it on with painter's tape. Everyone has their own way/idea on what works best, but this has served me pretty well. I notch one end for the sight and taper back the other end so that it isn't real abrupt where it ends at the rear of the ejection port. Put the sight in the hole you created and tape around the gun/plastic piece. I also wrap the gun whether it is a dummy or the real thing (habit I guess). This not only makes it matter less which dummy gun you get in regards to the blue coming off inside the holster, but it also helps to maitain the channel line that you want for whatever gun/style holster you are using. Above all, unless you have a really large front sight (haven't found one yet), your front sight will never tought the leather.
  4. Any suggestions for a Medium Brown? The HO Brown Springfield has is good quality wise, but a bit darker than I am looking for.
  5. I am sure someone already told u, I didn't read through the entire post, but u didn't go back through the eye on the first pic. I did the same thing and had the same problems. Not sure why, not enough tension maybe, but fixing on my Cobra 3 remedied the prob
  6. I did this holster pretty much the same way. I actually backed my exotic with 2-3oz veg tan. This was my first one...the main thing for me was remembering to finish the "cut-out" area before putting it all together. Both front pieces are 2-3oz pieces. I have one piece with the cut-out, the other, is the size of the full holster. Glue and sew the exotic to the cut-out, then the cut out to the other piece around the edges. I have another one I have done that I will have to find the pic on. Good Luck!
  7. I've done the same and can't agree more. This leather is priced right and as good as it
  8. Is there a specific reason no one makes blue guns for Kimbers? I have more requests than I could fill...if I had a blue gun.
  9. The red sentence above is probably the most understated...and most important statement anyone can tell you on here. I am still trying to overpower my ADHD and impatience! Good Luck!
  10. I had the same problem with mine, I lightened the top tension, and tightened the bobbin (1/4 turn at a time, lol) and it worked itself out. Hope this helps!
  11. Alright, I think I'm getting better with my new class 3, thanks Steve, but since I've just been practicing, didn't realize I can't keep the start of my stitch from unravelling. I rev at the end, but am not sure how to line up to do same at beginning without having 3 passes (fwd, bk, fwd), and bk 3 stitches and then forward throughout is hard to measure. I don't know, maybe there is somewhere y'all know of online that covers the start and stop aspect. If I see another utube vid example with cloth thread that doesn't bulk up like 277, I'm gonna scream! Lol Thanks in advance! CR
  12. As soon as I can make a deposit, I will be the latest "expecting father". Cobra 3 being paid for today with the highly anticipated wait to follow shortly there after. I'll let y'all know.
  13. Thank y'all. I'm in Houston and currently, am primarily sewing (by hand-lol) holsters, belts, tack, etc.
  14. Thanks for the input. I'll give Steve a call and see what he thinks.
  15. I am trying to determine which machine to purchase and need some help. I was planning to buy a "Boss" until I continued my research on here and found that for a little bit more money, I could purchase one of the two above machine that would allow me much more ease and speed (as well as quality). Unfortunately, the 4000 and the cobra 4 are too much. Can you all enlighten me on the advantages/disadvantages of the 3000 vs. cobra 3? From what I've been able to determine online, they look to be the same with the exception of maker and about $200. I am a hobbyist that makes primarily gun leather (holsters, mag, cuff cases, etc.) that has been encouraged to get get a little more serious about selling what I make. Thank you all for your time and input. Also, if any of you have pics of work done on either of these machines (including backside) it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks again! Charlie
  16. It is trial and error, but it is also the easiest way to get a good "light" tan or brown, depending. Leave the hide you are going to use in the sun, short periods of time intervals, put a sealer on it when it get the color you want it. The UV will darken it to a color I have not yet found in any bottles.
