For all of you musical leather enthusiasts! I have built some, I think, beautiful archtop guitars and basses wrapped in Hermann Oak leather. Here are pictures of two of them. The leather applied to the body provides a tonal quality that has to be heard to be appreciated. I believe that I am one of the few guitar builders in the world to try this technique, and welcome you to view more on my website at My link. These guitars are all handmade and hand tooled. Spruce backs and 3-layer laminated poplar tops. I've also used some very beautiful woods on the appointments, and my self-designed mosaic pearl inlay on the guitar fretboard. The world of leatherworking keeps on expanding. Feel free to post any comments or questions about my leather wrapped guitars and basses. Happy leatherworking!

Our version of the pear shaders 227 and 228 have a less pronounced hook. You will like the way the curve fits flower leaves and curves. You may have wondered, as I have, why Craftool dropped these so early in their production. I would speculate due to their extra work on that "simple looking" compound curve. material is 1018 steel, and this set does not have our 10 coat bluing process. Please contact us through this forum if you're interested. Our Price: $89.00 for the set of two. You’ll find our quality on par with the best, and as always we offer free shipping within the U.S., our Protectorates, and Canada. These stamps are in limited production, so order soon to make sure you receive your set of these hard to find hand made leather stamps.

We're making more new stamps all the time! Here's one of the latest. Our Welker Handmade Leather Stamp No 517-M. Based on an old design by MicMillen. For our version of the McMillen style we are using stress proof 1100 series steel for the handles and 1018 or 4140 steel for the head. We have made our master patterns from old published catalog pages. Though we are using a German pantograph to shape in the basic design, there is much hand finishing and hand engraving involved. These are very time consuming to make, far, far more than a basic shader or beveler! The stamping surface is .510" tall by .465" wide. This stamp does not have our 10 coat bluing process, but if you like we'll add it! Please let us know when you make your purchase. Our Price: $75.00 Please contact lwelker3(at)comcast.net for more information.

Hi Pete, These stamps are used in leather engraving. I'm attaching some pictures of what designs a particular stamp will make. The first picture is a sample of our Welker No. 999, No. 998 set of three stamps. One stamp makes the design at right, one stamp makes the middle design, and one stamp makes the left design. The next picture is of the Welker No. 227, No. 228 set of two stamps, or as they're called the pear shaders. This stamp is useful for creating floral patterns etc. We also make a Welker No. 237, No. 238 stamp set, which is the same design, but slightly smaller. If you're looking to engrave a certain design on leather, these stamps help in creating and repeating patterns, and will give your design a professional look. If you need more information, please contact us through this forum. We're always happy to answer questions. Happy Leatherworking! Thanks, Andy Hopkins Welker Leather Stamps.
