  1. I thought they were oak leaves at first until someone told me they were maple.... I don't know lol
  2. Thank you everyone! The color I used is fiebing's red and USMC black. Personally I prefer more natural colors but this is what my buddy asked for. What tool would have been better for the leaves?
  3. What do you guys think? Any ideas on how I can improve and I'm all ears!
  4. Ok great, I'll experiment with this on my next project
  5. Those look great! I'd love to learn how to make those
  6. Great, that's exactly what I was wanting to hear. I'm glad they're a quality product
  7. I've heard of vacuum forming before, do you need to have a real strong machine for this or will a food saver work? I've not tried it because my food saver bags have little textured squares on one side and I don't want that transferring to the leather
  8. Thank you, that makes perfect sense to me
  9. So I've been doing a lot of reading on here trying to better my works and realize I've been doing something completely wrong, I have been soaking my holsters in water, basically to the point of total saturation before shoving my gun and working on the holster. From what I've read two to three seconds under water is plenty but I'm a little confused about something. When I make my holster and it's ready for the forming there are times when I have to use and extreme amount of strength to get the gun all the way in and I feel like if it wasn't soaked it never would've fit. So what my question is is how do you guys deal with that problem? Am I just being overly dramatic and need to "man up" a bit? Or maybe when I finish my holster I should've sewn it in a way where there was already a considerable gap for the gun and not two layers of leather sewn flat? Please help me with this! Thanks in advance.
  10. Thanks guys! I showed the pictures to my brother who I just found out today also plays the game. He told me that it doesn't have to much of a Celtic background to it but that the wallet still works so I'm happy with it. One thing that's really been bugging me is where the lacing ends. My ideas of well done lacing is where you can't tell where it starts or finishes but on this you certainly can. It was my first lacing job though so maybe with practice...
  11. I think it looks fantastic. The different shades on the grapes and leafs really stood out to me. Also really liked the basket weave on the sides
  12. Hello everyone, I just made a walet using a Tandy kit. I would have liked to do my own but I didn't have thin enough leather and he wanted a plastic ID slot, we're military so we have to show it all the time AND I'm moving states in a few days so there wasn't a lot of time. anyway what this is is a wallet themed after a video game called "SKYRIM". I don't play games but he gave me what appeared to be a video game manual and the center emblem on the wallet is the games trademark I believe. His request was to have the emblem on there, have a wood like finish to the leather, and "make it look good". After flipping through the book a bit I noticed a lot of Celtic knots so I went in that direction with the rest of the product. The lacing is black kangaroo and the finish is Mahogany Antique with Clear-Lac. I do have a question from anyone who has experience with the Tandy wallet kits, how do their insides hold up?
  13. Thanks, I've gotten a bit better with the letters since then but still a long ways from perfect. I suppose it'll come with time
  14. I saw this design in the Tandy book and decided I'd give it a try. After a practice run I felt confident enough to try and make something presentable. What this is is a memorial plaque for a good friend of mine who lost her baby earlier this year. The letters were a little crooked but I was too far to turn back and she didn't seem to mind:-)
  15. Hello everyone, I started to regularly work on leather early Oct 2011. I love it and I'm always looking to improve which is the main reason I'm here; to gain knowledge and ideas. I wasn't expecting to see the quality of work and the diversity of people who all enjoy leather craft. December 12th was my last day in the Air Force, I have been stationed in Cheyenne Wyoming and now retur...
