Quick FYI. I didn't look through all your items but you have a couple of things listed as "Brand New" like the wood burning pens and leather dyes/stains. They are not brand new if some of the bottles of dye are partially full, and the wood burning pens you say yourself that they are used and/or tested. "Brand New" implies unused and unopened. I guarantee you're going to have an issue if the wrong person buys them. Not everyone reads descriptions, but they will hold you to the "Brand New" condition. Just trying to help you avoid trouble later. Selling your stuff is only half the battle. Keeping it sold and keeping the buyer happy are the other half. Good luck.

Bought A C.s. Osbourne Draw Gauge, Seems Just A Bit Off
Mike516 replied to Mike516's topic in Leather Tools
I'm going to try and get in touch with the seller and see if he can do something for me. I'm not really into having to file anything down or modify on a new tool to get it to work right when it should in the first place. I do appreciate your advice. I wondered if it was something I was doing but it seems that the item needs to be replaced or refunded. Next time I buy from a reputable seller. Maybe if I can get a refund I'll visit your shop and buy one of your CSO metal handle Draw Gauges, which I should have done in the first place. -
Bought A C.s. Osbourne Draw Gauge, Seems Just A Bit Off
Mike516 replied to Mike516's topic in Leather Tools
Thanks Bruce, I appreciate the information and suggestions. It's supposed to be brand new, but I was thinking it could be a second that Osborne was not planning on selling, then the guy on eBay got ahold of them. I'm going to try switching the gibs this weekend when I get back and see if that makes a difference. Otherwise, I messaged the seller, but I don't think he's going to answer me. He doesn't seem to be much of a communicator, but we'll see. Thanks again. -
Bought A C.s. Osbourne Draw Gauge, Seems Just A Bit Off
Mike516 replied to Mike516's topic in Leather Tools
Here it is. If you can make it out, I would say the ruler is off by about a sixteenth. Look at the 1 inch line. The ruler is flush with the base of the handle. If I try and screw it down straight,as soon as I try and draw the leather through, it moves and loosens up. -
I just bought this draw gauge and unless I'm using it wrong, it seems a bit off. I've been using the cheap wooden one from Tandy and never used one of these so it could be I just don't know how to use it. When I tighten the ruler part into the handle, the ruler is a bit off. It's not straight on the measurement line and the leather slightly rolls up going through the gauge. I'm going to try and take a picture if that would be helpful. But I was wondering, is this normal?

I think he means eCrater.

I never got an answer on this. Mainly I was just wondering if I need to remove the grease from inside the head and oil it. Sorry if this is a noob question but I don't want to ruin it.

I was at an estate sale and found a Singer 96-10. I couldn't help myself and I bought it. Not that I have room in my shop for another sewing machine, but it was failry cheap. It's supposed to handle medium to heavy fabrics whereas my 95-10 is for light to medium. My questions are: It has a lot of grease in the head. I thought you only used oil in the head. Is this normal? It has a heavy coat of black paint on it with drip marks and no decals. Could this be a repaint, and if so, what's the best way to remove it and repaint it? Does anyone know where I might find an adjuster's manual for it? I have a users manual, but I can't seem to find an adjuster's manual to assist me in taking it apart and refurbishing it. We found a great one for our 201 we're working on now, but there doesn't seem to be anything for the industrial machines. Thanks for any help.

What's the serial number?
-
I know what you mean about it being fast. Probably because in a factory they were cranking out 1000's of pieces a day and it had to be super fast. I'm hoping it'll sew through 2 pieces of 6/7 ounce leather. If it can do that then I think that'll be all I need. I just have to oil it up and adjust it a bit, but I'll be getting another machine to practice on before I mess with the one I want to keep.
-
Yes that's it, thank you Karina. If I recall it was the end of the day and I guess they couldn't get rid of it. I see old Singer's all the time but this was the first industrial type I've seen. And it's in great shape with an original leather drive belt, which I may or may not replace. What got me all geared up on this again is my wife just picked up a 201 today for sewing cloth projects for $25 at a thrift store. It got me to thinking about that 95-10 I have in my shop that I been using as a table. I cleaned it off today and I'm going to look into how to service it. Let me know how it sews.

I know I saw a website where I can put in a serial number and it would give me the model number along with the year and number manufactured, but I can't seem to locate it. Anyone have that handy?
-
Ok, thanks again.

Wow, that's pretty awesome. Thanks Cowboy! With #69 thread I should I use a size 16 or 18 needle?

I bought a Singer 95-10 about a year and a half ago not knowing anything about sewing machines for 25 bucks at an estate sale because I couldn't pass up the price. It was sitting in some ladies basement for a number of years but it still runs like a top. I'm sure I'm going to have to service it which shouldn't be a problem since I downloaded the manual and there's video's online. I'm just wondering if it'll sew leather, and if so, how thick? I know it's industrial, but that could mean it was used in a factory to sew lace doily's. Thanks in advance for any info.

They will honor any sale that Tandy has, but yes you have to call that in. I have only ordered a few times from Springfield, so I don't know if everything is the same. I meant they offer the same stuff that I use and it's always been the same quality or nicer. I didn't mean to imply everything was the same.
-
That's a good idea. Now that I think about it, I did have to deal with Syracuse once, because the usual store the website sends me to in CT didn't have what I needed, and they were pretty nice. Maybe I'll try calling Syracuse directly next time. But tbh, Springfield offers the same stuff at the same price so I might just avoid the aggravation. I go out of my way to be polite and professional when dealing with customers and vendors alike even if I'm having a bad day, so why should I have to deal with an attitude when I'm giving someone my business. I don't ask for much. The Postman comes to your store every day (not Saturday anymore but still...) so what's the big deal to stick a couple bags of snaps and a bag of daubers in a box and hand it to the Postman?
-
You're right about Sringfield's leather, but if you speak to them and tell them what you need, they will work with you if they can. They'll cut what you need. So if you order 15 feet, they give you 15 feet. With Tandy, I ordered a 15 sq ft hide once and got 9 or 10 feet. They charged me for what I got but I didn't need 10 feet, I needed 15, but they said they send what they have...?huh? does that make sense? I ordered some stuff from them recently that totaled 30 bucks and they charged me $13 for shipping and it would have fit in a FR box. You still have to watch Springfield to make sure they do what you ask, but they always make good if they make a mistake and the people that work there are MUCH nicer.
-
I second anyone but Tandy. Unfortunately, they've gotten worse and worse, and as convenient as they are, they won't even do little things like try and keep their customers shipping costs down. I recently called to ask if they could send something flat rate because it would have saved me money, but they said they don't have flat rate boxes and anyway they only use UPS for anything other than first class which is ridiculous for small orders because UPS is very expencive. AND they were rude about it. So that was my last order from them. Sorry for the rant Springfield Leather's stuff is mostly better quality, but some of the stuff they don't carry they get from Tandy. But they're always a pleasure to deal with and their leather is much nicer.

I'm sorry you were offended, I didn't mean it that way at all. I'm also sorry I referred to you as a guy, my mistake and I apologize. Your first post said; "If you think this is way too expensive please let me know this is my first sale of this kind and that is what I paid for them." I thought it was expensive, so I said so. You didn't ask for a price, so I didn't offer one. I didn't really think anything of this comment because I was just basically pointing out some prices. It is never my intention to offend anyone.
-
You're right, Tandy is a bad example. U-Braid-It has white for .51c a foot and there's some on eBay for $4 for 2 meters including shipping. Just saying it's not a bargain and I don't think there are that many people that buy from someone with no feedback or buyer protection for the same or close to the same price you can get it for from a regular company. Like I said, I'm not trying to beat the guy up. I just think his price is too high. Maybe someone here will buy it, I just don't think so.
-
Elite club price is .40 cents a foot from Tandy. Shipping from Tandy, even if I buy like 5 or 6 rolls will only be 10 or 11 bucks for flat rate priority, so shipping is lower. But maybe you'll find someone from Australia, so that works for you. The other issue is, you want premium price for it, and no offense but most people are going to buy from a reputable store unless the price is awesome, then maybe take a chance. I'm not trying to beat you up, but... Yes, that's what I'm saying. I think your price is too high considering how much shipping will be. Just my opinion, and I hope you sell it. I just think you need to lower your price or wait until Tandy's sale is over.
-
Bad timing. Tandy is having a sale on this stuff right now.

I have several metal rulers from a 4 foot long drywall t-square down to a 1 foot "L". I use one of these with a sharp utility knife laid out flat on the floor so as few starts and stops as possible.

Decent price if that includes shipping.
