  1. I drove out from Long Island to Philly yesterday with my wife to see Gregg at Keystone. What they lack in proximity to LI, they make up for in great customer service. His Mother is a sweetheart too. We were there quite a while and Gregg went over everything we needed to know about the machine so we were able to get right into practicing when we got home. I mean seriously, I thought I'd sit there and completely blank out, but I remembered a surprising amount of what he told us and was able to get right to sewing almost immediately after realizing the thread had to go through the little hole in the top of the thread spool holder to wind the bobbin lmao. Funny what you remember and what you forget. I could thread the machine, but I forgot to put the thread through that little arm above the spools and was puzzled why the bobbin wasn't spinning. But the hands on experience with Gregg explaining everything, and answering all my dumb questions, was invaluable. It was a great experience and even with the 5+ hour round trip, I will definitely be back there should I ever need another machine. The trip was so worth it. I would totally recommend them if anyone needs a machine and can get there. But if you can't get there, they deliver too. I also need to thank everyone for their recommendations and advice, including Wizcrafts for his write up on this thread and his suggesting this machine for me. It took me the whole summer, but I was finally able to save enough for this Juki. Happy Sewing!!!
  2. I think he means $300. The press with the plate on top and board on the bottom is 475 plus shipping. I hear it's a great company and I'm sure it's a quality press. But I can buy the plates and still be in this one for under $200.
  3. Exactly my thoughts about the machine. Not worth the 4 minutes saved right now with the low volume i'm doing. And that's a good point about the dies. Where's a good place to go for them? I've never bought metal dies. I'm looking at ordering a couple of plates for them too. Gets expencive when you're talking about 18 x 8. For an 18 x 8 and a 12 x 5 in looking at around $70.
  4. I can see the better clickers being much faster. But for the price, I can't justify it either. Maybe after I make my first million $ I'll invest in better equipment. But for now, I'll go bargain basement on a few things and put the money into better materials.
  5. So I went and picked one of these up for $135 out the door. Plus I got a free flash light lol. I set it up and I had some small 3/8 inch plates about 4x6 inches and some wood dies I had bought a little while back. Probably not the best idea to use a wood die with a 20 ton jack but I was really wanting to see how it works. I have to say I was pleasantly surprised with it. It's not a precision machine like the more expencive ones, but for the price it's a really good value. This is the time to buy this with the 20% super saver coupon. Thanks for posting this! Now I think I want a couple of 3/8 inch 20x8's and a poly board and I'll be set to cut some dog collars.
  6. This thing has been marked down again! With the 20% super saver coupon, I'm not sure I can pass this up right now for like 120 bucks then figure out how I want to set it up later. The other idea is to buy one with the plate on it for 475 bucks plus shipping. But I just can't see doing that as I've never even used one. I think a trip to HF is in order.
  7. Gotcha thanks. I just got a 20% super saver coupon, so I'll have to take a look at what they have and how much plates are.
  8. Haha. I'm thinking about getting one of these. I was wondering if the H-frame is better than the A-frame version and if it is necessary to weld the plates to it or can you let them "float" as someone else alluded to.
  9. Did you get the one you linked, the H-frame one?
  10. I was looking at these as well. I understand how all this works but have never used one. So I was wondering if you guys attach the 3/8" plates to the top and/or bottom of the work platform. Also, forgetting about price for a second, is there any benefit to the H frame vs the A frame version?
  11. I've seen buttons on other forums to accept a post as a solution to a post with a problem, or to vote or give a +1 for a poster who is helpful and wondered if there was a way to do something like that here. If I'm missing it, I do apologize. But I don't see it. Thanks.
  12. I would also consider a trade for another leatherworking book I don't have. Please state the name of the book, author, condition and if you are looking to trade straight up. Or if you want money also, how much.
  13. He said the same thing at the end of June; Sent 30 June 2015 - 04:28 PM; "I'm done with this forum". And I see those punches that were in his thread that was locked that he offered to me for $100 and then sold the same day are available again in this thread. If you want to base your prices on what you paid, don't blame people that their tire washers or window kickers or whatever nonsense that is if your prices are too high. Then you berate people for making offers!
  14. Brand new. I bought it because I couldn't find my copy. I was moving some boxes and I found my old copy on a shelf with some old Life Magazine's (I have no idea how it got there. So now I have no use for 2 of the same book and luckily have not opened the new one. I'm just asking what I paid for it. The back cover says "$9.99". And I can send it via media mail. PayPal preferred. But if you want to do a postal money order, I'll take that too.
  15. On the contrary, I find the posts most illuminating. Plus, with the posts, there is no need for feedback. I think we can usually get a pretty good idea who we want to deal with and who we don't by simply observing a few of these threads. And why are you so upset with Art? You offered me a price on something else, then sold it privately. Kind of the same thing. What did you tell me? Something like; the deal isn't done until you have the money in front of you. And this was just a matter of him trying to figure out shipping. Nothing was even settled on yet.
  16. Ok awesome, thank you Medsar. I guess I was wrong about this machine, it is worth what you're asking, my apologies to you. Prices still do seem lower on eBay sold listings, not sure what that's about,
  17. I'm actually saving my money for a Juki anyway. This would probably have been a 150 pound mistake. So you're right, 'it's not for me', just for a different reason.
  18. I think you are looking at eBay machine's that are for sale, and not one's that have actually sold. And I don't go by Craigslist. People ask all kinds of crazy money for stuff on there, that doesn't mean they are going to sell it. But it's your machine and you can ask for whatever you want for it. So, I'm going to pass, thanks anyway. Good luck on your sale.
  19. Does anyone know if I can save these pictures then turn them right side up? I can't really tell what's going on here looking at it sideways. Also, I could be mistaken, but I think if you're patient you can get one of these on eBay for between one and two hundred bucks in this condition. Can someone else verify this? That said, I am interested and live fairly close and like the idea of being able to test it before buying. But I think $600 is really high. How negotiable are you?
  20. I'm interested but your pictures don't work/don't open. Please try posting the pictures again. Thanks.
  21. Yes good luck to you. $1600 is a real good price for it new. I've been seeing it new for $2200 on sale for $1850 - $1925 with the motor upgrade. What sewing store is that by you that has it for $1600? Do they have a website? It might be worth the drive out there to take a look at that and talk to the guy weather it be Gregg or whoever. Thanks!
  22. Thank you TT. Oddly enough I did find a Juki 1541S on CL near me, but someone else may have beat me to it. I'm really not sure if I want to go used and possibly deal with someone else's headache or just not take a chance and buy new. It's a good bit more money, but in the long run it may just be worth it to invest now and avoid problems in the future. I think it's better that I read all the stuff on this section of the boards before deciding on which machine I want to invest in anyway. But all good advice, I thank you all for the input, advice and expertise.
