  1. I'm selling my Blanchard knife with two well maintained blades. And my #5 set of pricking irons. 6 tooth and 2 tooth. 5.4 mm between the teeth. Plenty of life left in these tools. $170 plus shipping takes the set. United States only please. Zakkaryc@gmail.com
  2. Never worked with that stuff before. Looks like a dinosaur. Bought some kind of croc print cow leather from springfield and it was awful. Looked like a piece of rubber. And I feel you on the money spending...this is the most expensive hobby I've ever had. More than drums. I think about quitting a lot so I don't spend anymore money. But I won't. - Zach
  3. I used 4mm kyoshin elle stitch chisels and I believe 1mm flat wound thread I did a couple variations of this wallet. One with flesh side up and another with the grain side up. The sueded one looks sweet.
  4. It's probably a great class. I'm just upset I'll never be able to afford that. Or really any classes for that matter. So it has to be books for me. Frustrating. There's really no local classes here. Ever heard the term "the sticks" or "the boonies" that's where I live. More livestock than people. You are definitely right about being shown how to do something as opposed to reading it. I read about gussets and turning allowances and different types of skives all day long. Can I do it? No.
  5. I'm getting off topic now. If anybody reads this, and knows how to get in touch with mr Francis. Or has these manuals for sale. I'll buy them from you. Thank you!
  6. Oh how I wish I had an extra $3500 laying around so I could go take a once a week class halfway across the country. Not outrageous at all!
  7. Thanks bob! I'll ask him. As of now I am leaning towards a no. It seems too much of a gamble to blow that kind of money. Digdugg18 I've been known to rip apart a Salvation Army purse or two. But so far I've learned that they are cheap horribly made purses I don't want to remake. I'll keep my eyes peeled for some good books and post here if I find anything good. That Valerie Michael book seems to be the cream of the crop for me. Found some places offering classes online, but man are they expensive. There's a place in California you can go to "school" and learn from a lady who worked for hermes but the classes are outrageous in cost. No wonder this trade has been vanishing.
  8. Thank you Joel! When you don't do any kind of tooling the stitching has to be on point. Your eyes have nothing to distract them. I try! - Zach
  9. Here is an inlaid cardholder I made. Black clayton horsehide and black pigskin. Gold linen thread. I put some of my other work on Instagram @_cunninghams_ check it out if you want. Happy with how this turned out. - Zach
  10. I am looking for a book that teaches me construction notes. Own quite a few of them...leather working manual al stohlman. I have the Valerie Michael book. I own a whole slew of these japanese books I paid an arm and a leg for (not worth it by the way) and various other books. Seems a lot of books I buy are really vague or refer to other volumes of books. Just looking for a solid leather working book to give me insight into the construction of bags and wallets. Haven't found it as of yet. The al stohlman books are okay at best. But I have no interest in tooling. Anybody have some recommendations on books. Written in English.
  11. Well I hope Francis is doing alright! I emailed and tried to get in touch yesterday but haven't gotten a reply. That's the impression I got too! Another al stohlman book that teaches me how to make a shotgun shell case with a duck carved into it. Don't need or want that!
  12. Anybody read through these? I am very hesitant to spend $97 a pop on four books that come in a zip file format. In case you don't know what I am blabbering about. Here's the link http://www.theleatherconnection.com/id57.htm He has some very convincing testimonials on there, but that doesn't do much for me. All I keep seeing is $100 and "ebook" I just can't justify that in my head. Any info on these manuals would be greatly appreciated! - Zach
  13. W&C vegetable tan with a black pig skin liner. Field notes book is actually made out of wood. Happy with it. - Zach
  14. I wanted to get away from using snaps. And I'm glad you picked up on the older style I was going for. The logo I have is an ouroboros. A snake eating his own tail. Thanks everyone for digging the stuff I do!! Been doing this for about a year now. - Zach
  15. Running a wet sponge along the edge that is to be beveled helps me out sometimes.
  16. good idea. i was thinking about anchoring it down that way as well. wallet reins will get some tugs and pulls over its lifetime. have to make sure its secure. thanks!
  17. Here is a few of my more recent wallets I have made for people. Thought I would "show them off". - Zach
  18. you are the man tom! that is exactly what i was looking for! thank you very much. let me know if i can help you out with anything.
  19. I looked around for a while to see if anyone has asked this before, but no luck. Im interested in making a round leather cord wallet rein. Looks simple to do but I cant figure out how they are sewn together at the ends. Looks to me like waxed thread wrapped around 32985792857 times. Anyway...heres a photo of the rein i am talking about. anyone have any idea how these are done? - Zach
  20. I am in the market for a stitching chisel or pricking iron. Looking for some tips on where to buy them and what sizes I would need. I know some people dont really like to use them, but the awl is very time consuming/I stab myself a lot and I am not as accurate as I'd like to be with it yet.
  21. I havent even started to cu it. Im still at the drafting stage. I cant get these curves to match up evenly on each side. It always appears off.
  22. I looked around for a while but couldnt find a good description of how to do it. I am doing one of the starter projects in a book and the pocket flap has curved edges on both sides. How do I get these curves even and neat? Ive come close but it always seems a little bit off.
