I have some snaps I bought off etsy. They arent line 24's or line 20's which I have the setters for. Don't know what they are. Also I have a snap in mind that I would like to get, but I dont know what its called. Heres some pictures. First is what I have. Second is what I want.
I like the price of the horse hide. But I emailed some lady from springfield, and she said they are UNTOOLABLE. Is that word? It is now. Yes you can stamp them with a good smack. But you can not swivel them up. Bummer.
Still pretty cool though. 7.50 for 5 lbs my god.
Herman Oak. Maybe not as experienced as some of you. But I can tell good and bad. Herman Oak is pretty damned good. I dont know about 9-10 oz. Seems pretty chunky. 7-8?
Okay. Your friend likes it...but it smells like pee so badly they have to put it on their balcony. I would just cut my losses. It was soaked in piss.
or just cut it up and measure the pieces. make a new one. again. it. was. soaked. in. piss.
I got the zach white bag. AWESOME. Thanks for pointing me in that direction brother. I got three huge pieces. A huge long strip that strangely resembles a WWF belt. And about 6 belt ends to practice on.
I ordered it. Seems like a great deal for someone like me that is just getting started. Someone referred me to springfield a while back and I love that place. I also got a 12 x 15 granite slab for 19 bucks. Im not buying from Tandy ever ever ever again.
I also just made a stitching pony for under 10 dollars. Tandy wants a benjamin plus shipping for that sucker. They are thieves.
yup thats what i bought. you are right. the description just sounded like gibberish to me at the time so...lesson learned. i bought that stuff from zach white, got to my house in two days, and it looks awesome.
They were pretty cheap. I guess I can use them to make a little pouch for my girlfriend or something. Hopefully they will find some use in my workshop. Thanks a lot Cheryl! I'll leave him a nasty feedback to make myself feel a little better about wasting 15 bucks.
Hello. My name is Zach Cunningham. Im from Lancaster PA. Just got onto this site and I am completely ecstatic about the wealth of knowledge here. Everyone seems really cool and I am looking forward to getting to know everyone! Just started with leatherworking and I will have a lot of questions. But I prefer learning from real people as opposed to reading my books.
I recently just bought a 2lb mix bag of vegetable tanned leather from amazon to toy around with. HOWEVER! Both sides are pretty rough and are unburnished. I have aquired saddle soap and some gulf wax (things I am pretty sure I need). I was just curious as to the proper procedure to obtain a nice smooth surface to begin my stamping. Apologies in advance if this question has already been answered, but all I have really found is how to burnish the edges. Any help on this matter would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
