looking for one or two sides of black english bridle 3/4 oz. in Hermann Oak or W & C. Is there any suppliers out there that can do that? I know Hermann Oak wont and thats who I had ordered 3 sides from a couple years ago but they need 5 sides in same color in order to make a sale? That breaks my heart. I have almost a full side of 5oz black Hermann Oak bridle if anyone out there wants to make a trade. 3 to 3.5 oz black is what im looking for. Wickett and Craig id be willing to try too

thanks alot guys for the advice. Good stuff to know

nice, that makes sense. thanks man you always answer my questions pretty quickly. do you need to glue the material to the bottom lip of each slot so that when you go to put the card in, it doesnt miss the fold and slide down to the next one down or to the bottom? this is actually a pretty cool design. i dont like the idea of using these other materials though.

i wondered that. and glued the fabric instead of stitching on the backside. thats not something im gonna mess with lol still wondering if thats the only option

couldnt get the picture to show up. hopefully someone knows what im asking

Hi guys, Ive seen this question asked before but the answer didnt get answered. sorry if the answer is somewhere I didnt see. I have a guy wanting a wallet with slit pocket slots like shown below. I dont understand how they work. what keeps the top cards from sliding down too far. with stacked card slots, you can fix each layer so that the card slides down only how far you want it, but with a single layer, i dont see how that would work. If someone can explain how that works i would appreciate it. i would hate to turn the guy down but i dont want to make something that is not functional.

Thanks Hayes. Im sure youre right about the press n snap. Ill look into the YKK snaps as well

Thanks Tree Reaper for answering that question for me

ya they are just too thin. and if the $150 tool i just bought doesnt work on them, im def not content with using them I was thinking of buying some osborne snaps due to the convenience. anyone had good results with these?
-
just gave that a try and it flattened the cap a little and left a slight square shaped indent like i figured it would but the result was better than what i was getting with the anvil and the press n snap tool. Now i need to try and figure out why i just spent over $100 on a press n snap

Do the dot snaps have any visible markings on them? they dont say "dot" on them or anything do they? I need them to be totally plain looking snaps. I was gonna give these a try though.

Press N Snap tool did not fix the problem. the snaps are officially junk

i might end up doing that. Its frustrating that there arent many sources for waxed nylon with specific sizes provided Your stitches look good though. I worry about getting the wax to penetrate the nylon thread good enough. I know you can wax and then rub with a brown paper bag to get it to melt in but i wonder sometimes if that works as well as just having a thread that is prewaxed. Ill prob pick up some from the thread exchange but still interested in other sources.

Still searcing for a source for waxed nylon thread in sizes comparable to 207 or 277. I would settle for left twist at this point

^^ Thats a good way to do it. I ordered a Press N Snap setter tool. I'll let you guys know if my problem gets fixed or not.

I cut it with some end cutters then round it back out with some needle nose pliars. These simply cant be set with the basic anvil and setting tool. Even the slightest little taps with the mallet and the post starts denting through the front of the button. I'll try and find something more solid I guess. Or invest in a better setting tool which I cant really afford right now.

Heres the snaps I bought http://www.ebay.com/itm/221238588333?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649 They have a longer post than i usually would need but I cut them shorter so that there is only 1/16" - 1/8" sticking up. I've previously been really successful at setting snaps with the tandy anvil and setter tool. very rarely screw up the post and usually get it to roll over very nicely. This is the first time ive had a problem with the cap denting like this
-
Thanks guys. I figured it was the post material making the dent but I couldnt figure out why the shape of the anvil wasnt preventing this from happening. Heres a Picture of the backside of cap and it is a two piece design. Im gonna try and return them. I guess just because they are solid brass snaps, doesnt mean they are high quality. I tried using a small punch this morning to tap down the post a little like you suggested Ray, and only a couple very light taps left the same square indention.

HELP! what is going on here? Got some new snaps and when I put them in the anvil and start tapping to set it with my mallet, the cap gets this square shaped dent. Is it my anvil or what. Only thing i can think is the snaps arent true line 24 size and the indent in my anvil is a little small? it seems to fit like its supposed to. Take a look at the pictures and let me know what you think. Thanks

bought this last month and replaced it with right twist. practically brand new, ive made about 4 wallets using it. I paid $63 shipped. If someone is interested in it for $50 shipped i would be glad to get rid of it.

Do you worry about twist direction on you nylon thread? Do you know any source for right twist nylon that is prewaxed and has a sizing available? if you handwax your nylon, does it take the wax well? Do you just buy the bonded left twist machine nylon that seems to be readily available? thanks
-
Im not familiar with poly thread or the sizing but I have wondered about it. I would definitely use it if I got around to working with canvas or any leather goods that are exposed to sun and hard wear. For simple stuff like wallets, I couldnt tell you how it would look. Im sure it would be plenty durable. For me, I want the stitching on my wallets and other similar goods to look as good as possible and as durable as possible. Im happy with the barbours lined im using, i just want to experiment with other threads to make sure im not missing out on something. I've become very picky about quality and doing my research before ordering online because I've probably spent over 1K on leather supplies over the last couple years that I wish I hadnt purchased. Wrong sizes or bad quality etc.

Thanks for coming back on that Cyber, I appreciate it. I might just pick up a cheap spool from somewhere just to see if i like using it. I read that waxing nylon thread helps to keep it from stretching so much which is why I think I would want it waxed. Your work looks good though. The thing about nylon that interests me is that the stitches always look so clean. no fraying at all. seems like alot of handstitchers that i respect use it too, regardless of the fact that most the experienced old timers say linen is the way to go.
