My First Book Binding Experiment
Solofalcon replied to Solofalcon's topic in Books, Journals and Photo Albums
Moe, That is exactly how I feel. The ideas just start to flow. We will see if it sells on Etsy. Thanks. All4Christ, I used pig skin lining leather but with the suede side up, and I used PVA glue as the videos recommend. It works well. Thank you, Kevin -
My First Book Binding Experiment
Solofalcon replied to Solofalcon's topic in Books, Journals and Photo Albums
Thank you. I found some great youtube videos. Basically I followed the 'Textblock' and 'Moleskine' tutorial videos that Sealemon put out. Just type in Sealemon in the search and a bunch of well made tutorials come up. -

Dragon Flask, Tree Frog Wallet
Solofalcon replied to 5avan10's topic in Purses, Wallets, Belts and Miscellaneous Pocket Items
I had similar problems when I started lacing. The best thing I can tell you is to loosely lace the beginning three holes to give you slack to finish the job. The lacing directions in the Leatherwork Manual by Al Stohlman are a great reference for lacing. Just keep working with it and it will start looking how you want it. Nice work. -
Thank you everyone. Lightingale, I used Fiebings Light Brown and USMC Black dye sprayed through an airbrush and I sprayed a very light coat of Fiebings Saddle Lac on the compass/gear area as a resist, but no resist on the eagle. I then used Tandy Eco-Flo Tan Gel Antique over the whole piece, with Super Sheen final coats.

This is a composition notebook cover I made for myself to keep track of my fitness progress and workouts.

Thank you. Nappers I'm not sure what you're talking about as far as this hawk cover you mentioned. That might be somebody else's work.

Paddle Holster For A Ruger .45 Auto
Solofalcon replied to Solofalcon's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
I must have been tired that day. Yes I meant pancake style holster. Good call, thank you. As far as the design, I have looked at other holsters for inspiration, but yes this is a design I created specifically for this gun. After tracing the outline of the gun on paper, I know roughly how I want it to look and start sketching the rest of the design out. -
Thank you all for the comments. For the last two comments, I used an airbrush around the edges. I believe I used black for the actual edge of the piece and a dark brown for the edge detail on the stag. I love that airbrush though and the control it gives.

Shoulder Holster For A 3" 1911
Solofalcon replied to Solofalcon's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
Twin oaks, it was definitely a 3" Colt 1911. If the end were open, it would look shorter and more proportionate, but was a perfect fit for the gun. It was my first time molding the leather for a semi auto and admit it could look a little better knowing what I know now. It is not horizontal but much closer to vertical and the customer didn't want a strap, especially with how good the retention felt to him for just being shaped leather. Bottom line is, this is what the customer ordered and was very happy with the end result. Thank you for your wisdom though.- 5 replies

Leather Portfolio (No Zipper)
Solofalcon replied to Solofalcon's topic in Books, Journals and Photo Albums
Thanks for the comments. The stitching is done by hand. I used an airbrush to spray Fiebings medium brown for the overall color and Fiebings chocolate brown for the edges. I really love the control I get with airbrush. -

Thank you. I'm new to this site and forums altogether, but I have been working with leather for about ten years now.

1St Braided Belt
Solofalcon replied to Aurelie's topic in Purses, Wallets, Belts and Miscellaneous Pocket Items
Looks great and inspirational. That looks like it was a lot of fun to make. -
Nappers, thank you for the comments. I'm glad you are enjoying them. Please check this same forum again. I just posted a new topic with pictures of a smaller axe cover with a belt loop. I thought you might like to see it. Take care and good luck.

It's all good. No hard feelings between anybody please?! I understand where everyone is coming from, and I'm cool with dropping it. I will post in short bursts in the future. It doesn't bother me. Nobody needs to be reported. I thank everyone for sticking up for me, and didn't intend on starting a war. I'm new to this community, and would like it to stay as a community. If you work with leather, you're cool in my book. Take care everyone, and thank you for the warm welcome.

Western Floral Purse
Solofalcon replied to Solofalcon's topic in Purses, Wallets, Belts and Miscellaneous Pocket Items
Glad to hear it Terix. Good luck. I just took my time and concentrated on one section at a time without any pressure. Thank you. Thanks, Wishful. It sure did take a while. I ran out of lace when there was only three inches to go on the project. But I found the matching color and it all worked out. This is one of the pieces I'm most proud of. I love the look of the antique stain. It is with a happy family member now. Take care. -
I get it dirtclod. I heard you the first time and anything I post in the future will be in my own gallery or an occasional single post to a forum like this just like everyone is doing. I was 'showing off' like the forum is titled for visibility because this is my first time on any forum and was excited to get my stuff out there to be seen, and I now know the proper way to do it after you and other people brought it to my attention. There will be no more mass postings on a forum from here on out. And thank you coiledup for your support. Awesome words.
