  1. I have just taking the leather off a leather sofa. It smells like the household smoked. Can I wash this leather in the washing machine with some fabric conditioner? Ian.
  2. Is it in my imagination or have I seen a twin wheel Overstitch tool. I want to make a waistcoat and was thinking about doing twin lines of stitching. Have looked on eBay and cannot find one. Ian
  3. Yes, I had thought of that. But as it is about 3-4" front to back I thought it would be a big ask. Not like the 3/4" for a folding knife. Regards, Ian.
  4. Hi all, My son has bought a digi camera and has set me a challenge to make him a case for said camera. A few questions for you knowledgable people. What thickness of leather to use . If I use 2-3mm ,to give protection to camera, I would not be able to sew it inside out and then turn it out the other way. Mind, I could probably skive off the edges and then do a saddle stitch up the seam. Second option is to make it out of thinner leather and then put in plenty of soft lining in to give protection. Any other ideas? Ian.

  6. Cheers Dwight, That is something you wouldn't,t get over here. A hunting, gun toting pastor. But then again you do things different over there. Thanks for that, didn,t think about the leather. I have glued it to the outside spine and the inside crease. Will sew it tomorrow when glue sets. Thanks again. Ian.
  7. I have bought the above and the staples that hold the book together have rusted through. I want to sew. The spine together. As I have no experience of this sort of thing. How many stitches to the inch should I use should I use and would linen tread be ok? Also I presume saddles stitch would be ok? Thanks.
  8. Humperdingle, when you say band aids do you mean actually like band aids or like the fingers cut off a glove?. I made the glove type but they seem rather cumbersome. May try cutting the ends off.

  12. It pays to shop around. I got a belt cutter and a lace maker from Tandy because they were on sale offer and were cheaper than Le .a lot of stuff on the bay is usually dearer than Le Prevo. I got a Maun Safety Ruler for 10p on Amazon. So, shop around.
  13. When using gum trag can water be added to make it go further. If this is possible what effects would it have on the usage.
  14. Thanks foe the replies. I have got some needles from Identity Stoe, here in England and the eyes are quite long. Can now thread without needle threaders. Much better.

  17. No at the moment I am using linen. What are the sizes of nylon thread? I have a bobbin of "40" and it seems very thin. Was wondering about sewing with it double thickness. It is certainly very strong.
  18. I have 18/3 thread and 01 needles.tried with a small wire needle threaders, but the double thickness of thread was too much for it. The wire snapped. A seamstress friend told me to put nail varnish on the thread and let it harden. The wife is still wondering what happened to her bottle of nail varnish, who me?
