  1. From what I have read here on the forum the Craft tool model is an inferior product by comparison. Cheers Zip
  2. Thanks Matt, I'll send them an email. Cheers Zip Do you know if the Le Prevo is the Original Strap cutter of the Craft tool version? The photo and description doesn't identify the product other than use the words 'Strap Cutter' Cheers Zip
  3. Thanks for your reply but Tandy only carry the Craftool version of the strap cutter. The version i'm after is the 'Original Strap Cutter' USA made. Cheers Zip
  4. Hi All I'm looking to buy the Original Strap Cutter (Made in USA) but don't seem to be able to locate one. I'm based in Alicante Spain so i'm looking for a supplier in Europe. I've contacted the manufacturer by email but haven't received a response. Anybody help me out? Many thanks Cheers Zip
  5. Have a look at Nigel Armitage's videos. The answer to all your woes are there Cheers Zip
  6. Hi Jesús, many thanks for the links. I live in Alicante but visit Madrid frequently to visit with family (Suegra y Cuñados). I´m here at the moment!! (Lucero) but return to Alicante tomorrow. I´ll look up your suggestions next time I´m in town. Many thanks Cheers Zip
  7. Hi I´ve used him for Fiebings products too. Good prices and service. Cheers Zip
  8. I have to go to Madrid frequently, do you know of a good supplier of Veg Tan Leather and other resources there (tools/Dyes/Finishes etc)? Cheers Zip
  9. Can I have access please? Cheers Zip
  10. Hola Jesús Bienvenidos al foro. De donde eres? Vivo en Alicante pero soy de Londres. Hay mucho información aquí. Disfrutalo!!! Un saludo Zip
  11. I'm using 3mm veg tan for the stropping area and adding two 2mm pieces to form the handle section, so the handle will be 7mm total and 3mm for the main strop (dunno what that is in ounces i'm afraid). With regards to 2-sided, they can come with a linen/cotton strop also attached, but I have found that the flesh side of veg tan works well for this operation, so i'm building this one with just the leather. Cheers Zip
  12. Thanks for all your comments, and to Cyberthrasher for spotting where i'm coming from and giving me the information I was after. What i'm making is a hanging strop for a Straight (Cut-Throat) Razor which is a completely different animal to what is used for leather tools. Cheers Zip
  13. Hi All I've just taken delivery of some 100% Neatsfooot Oil that I want to use to supple up a Razor Strop project that i'm working on. I'm a little confused as to where in the process I apply the Neatsfoot. Can anybody enlighten me please? I'm using Veg Tan shoulder for the project. Many thanks Cheers Zip
  14. I'm a Brit but located in Alicante Spain. The resources here that i've been able to find to date are pretty minimal, so I continue to purchase from the UK. Cheers Zip
  15. Thanks for the Rec. Dbury, I think I'll give him a go, coupled with your rec. his ebay reviews are positive. Cheers Zip
  16. Hi I too am looking at the Shop4leather site on ebay for full tooling shoulders. His prices certainly look fair! Anybody had experience with him, and if so, is the quality of his stock as he describes? Cheers Zip
  17. Thanks for your suggestions, they have been very informative. I love the factory made ones in the video!! Cheers Zip
  18. Thanks for the reply, just another question as i've never seen one of these in the flesh before LOL How wide do the jaws generally open? Cheers Zip
  19. What do you guys think is best, clams or a pony? I'm just starting out and am going to build one or the other, I would like your opinions on which type you think is best and and why. Many thanks Cheers Zip
  20. Thank you All for your warm welcome! I've been busy over the last few days researching tools etc for this rather fascinating craft. Tools have now been ordered, boxes are all packed for the move, and the removal men come tomorrow to haul our personal effects. We alas, don't go until the 10th of next month, but hey, that'll pass quick enough I reckon :-) And then the challenge begins!! I'm gonna start on the fundamentals and concentrate on stitching and cutting practice to start with. After that I think a worthy project will be to make the scabbard for my Leather Work Knife, beyond that i've a few ideas for first projects. Standby Chaps, the questions are gonna come thick and fast LOL Cheers Zip
  21. Hi Dave I will look forward to your report Cheers Gary
  22. I bet i'm newer than you LOL I'm in Alicante and have also been working on a tool buying list from Le Prevo, so 'two great minds' etc What do you think of the quality of the tools Dave, are they pretty good for the money? Thanks for the link to the Fiebings site. Should I discover anything i'll post it here. Keep in touch Cheers Gary
  23. Hi i'm UK based and am just compiling a kit list to buy from Le Prevo, who after some research seem to offer the best prices on many of the basic handtools. Do you know if what they stock are 'Ivan'? (they don't mention the maker) and if so which ones should I steer clear of. I'm a total noob who is just about to embark on this new hobby and would rather buy once and have reasonable tools. Generally in life I find good stuff nearly always makes the job in hand that much easier and gives more pleasure.
  24. Hi Everybody, Just a quick line to introduce myself. I'm taking early retirement at the end of this month and moving from the UK to Spain. I reckon with loads of time on my hands i'm gonna enjoy learning all I can about this fascinating craft. I'm a total noob so please forgive me if I ask stupid questions from time to time. Hope to get to know a few of you as time goes by out there on the forums. Cheers Zip
  25. Hi All I'd be interested in any suppliers in Spain too. I'm in the process of moving lock stock and barrel and will be resident over there next month. BTW, which UK supplier do you favour Django? Cheers Zip
