  1. Yeah Paul its gonna hold that shape and I was very impressed with how tight it fit the gun and was glad I formed it with the lining leather in place (I used a very thin pig skin leather to line it only because of the metal of the rivets)... I was skeptical when a buddy suggested it to me but I was really impressed with how well it worked and as a bonus it keeps the leather wet being in that plastic and its easier than using sandbags or whatever ....you can leave it in there as long as you like til your ready to work it
  2. I had read on a tutorial on molding that if you soak it til you don't see anymore bubbles it molds easier ... but it would certainly save me time if that isn't true lol .... thanks for the input I really appreciate it ... and Para I found those bags at walmart they were $10 for 4 of them and my only tip on it is... that you have to make sure you get something under the valve so the bag doesn't block it and you get all the air out that way.
  3. It isn't much but here is my first holster I've made and my first project using my consew 206rb .... I formed the leather by soaking it for a day and then putting around the gun and put it in a "Magic Bag" (those bags for clothes that you vacuum out the air). Its for a Springfield Armory XD5 3 1/2 inch 45 cal. I appreciate any comments or tips
  4. I'd just use a good veg tanned leather about 5-6 oz Tandy Leather has a nice Craftsman Oak double shoulder on sale til 1/31 that would work nicely ... and they'd have the straps you need also .... of course they sell a shoulder holster kit that would have everything you need and pre-cut
  5. Thanks for the comments ... the outter leather was from a wallet project in a kit that I never did ... but the interior is my own design and hand sewn from lining leather I bought ... didn't have a pattern for the interior so I just winged it
  6. This is my first try at both a wallet and a sheridan style ... I know I made a couple mistakes and please overlook the unfinished lacing ... sewing the inside took me forever since I had to do it by hand ... well that and the fact that I'd never sewn anything before in my life lol ... any comments appreciated Thanks Tim
  7. Thank you ...I am proud of it actually and even more important is that my friend that asked me to help her with her old saddlebags loves them ....I appreciate the nice comment!
  8. ok last time for posting this but I finished it and here are the pics of them on the bike
  9. you got it .. kinda wondering how they'll look myself since the bags are black lol
  10. they're just a cover to look like inserts on top of her saddlebags since they were worn out and looked like hell..... I suggested complete new tops but this is what she wanted...
  11. I posted up my first attempt at a feather a while back and this is why I was trying to do them ... my friend wanted new tops for her Fatboys saddlebags.. she wanted Feathers on them and for them to match her 10 year old leather grips .. so I did the best I could at making new leather look 10 years old lol the braiding took the longest especially since this is my second time doing any braiding at all... Tell me what you think. Thanks
  12. I tried layering 3 stains (smoke black, red, and silver) any suggestions on the carving or staining would be appreciated ... all in all I'm not displeased since I'm new to it all
  13. Really nice .... and yeah I can definitely see that in like a chocolate cherry color
  14. Ahh ok thanks for the input ...and don't think we're just being nice ... it is nice looking
  15. That is a nice seat!.... gettin ready to start on seats soon.. but gotta research it more myself including the type of foam to get the support for a comfortable ride... one question is how did you do the shaping of the leather?
  16. Thanks appreciate the suggestion
  17. Thanks I appreciate it
  18. Looks really nice ...I just started this stuff but to me it looks clean
  19. Thanks ....any suggestions are helpful and much appreciated
  20. I've only been working in leather now for about 2 1/2 months and I've tried my first feather cause a friend wants it on her saddlebag.... I'd appreciate any helpful critiques to make this thing better, especially the downy puffs at the base of the feather (how to make them look "puffy" I guess is what I'm lookin for there .. lol) Thanks Tim
