  10. hi all, new member here from san francisco bay area (east bay to be exact) and interested in doing leather works. i have been sewing since i was 12 years old and got started on my mom's home singer sewing machine. i have acquired a singer 16-188 industrial machine that i am fixing at the moment. i got this untested and have not started the motor yet. all parts seem intact just for some missing minor ones like bobbin plate, thread spool holder. i also have a singer 99K that i wanted to use for light leather works. anyway here's my first project that i am working on. it is for my ipad mini case with some small leather works. all the stiches are hand sewn. i am using a veg tanned cowhide 4-5oz and 100% wool felt (1/8"). i know it's not the best but hopefully in time i will do better. thanks guys.
  11. hi all, newbie here and can't find any available manual online for singer sewing machine 16-188. i just got this but have no idea how to put the thread to start sewing. i know that this is a nice walking foot machine and would love to start sewing some leathers. will anyone be able to help me out ? any available manual here ? thanks a lot.
  12. Thanks for the info. appreciate it. i will contact them.
  13. hmm. sorry new member here. who's BOBs ? is there a way to slowing it down other than adding a pulley.? might be too much of a work for me to add servo and all that but would appreciate the instructions on how to do this setup. Thanks to you all for the leads on parts. will contact them. hopefully they have all the things i need to make this machine run.
  14. new member here. been looking for motor belt for 16-188 and bobbin plate. appreciate it. i got myself an old 16-188 for $1. and need to make it working. thanks again.
  15. new member here and just got myself a singer sewing machine 16-188 for $1. the guy just wanted it out of his basement. so i decided to give him $5 instead of his $1 asking price. i checked that it is a 1940 machine. the buyer told me that it's been sitting there for awhile but was working before. i have not tried it yet as i figure it will need some fixing. didn't fire up the motor yet. i wonder if anyone here has any experience with this sewing machine and would be able to point me to the right direction on how to resurrect this mean machine. i figure it will need a new motor belt and a bobbin plate. anyone know where i can get those ? appreciate all the help. thanks again.
