  1. Looks Good. Im sure you are your worst critic. I like the pattern you made.
  2. Thanks Bill. They looked good, until you could get close enough to smell the hide. My customer had that old hide for over 20 years, and it still smelled like a piss covered goat......But my customer is really Ranchy, and as far out into the high desert as his ranch is, only his dogs will have to worry about the smell.....It diddnt seem to bother him when he put them on....but it was all I could do to work on them in my shop..... As for the antique..... I first died the brand in the center with Cordovan liquid die. Then added a very light coat of leat-lac to the yokes....let that dry for a couple hours, and then appied a coat of Sheridan Brown antique paste with a small piece of sheeps wool, and wiped it off immediately with a clean rag..... and that is the result....thanks for your comments Bill. Hope that Helps, Happy Toolin' Justin Alps

  11. Here is a pic of a shave kit I just finished. I can send you the pattern i created if you would like, i also have a different pattern for soft leather shave kits to use chap leather, or hair on hide instead of tooling leather. hope this helps, Justin alps
  12. Bryan, go to the dollar store and get some clear shipping tape and overlap the tape on the back of your project. it will help you get a cleaner finished product. Also, you might look into Barry King "slicker:", to slick the front of the leather before taping the back, It is just a thick piece of glass with round edges that you push over leather before you tool it, This will help elimenate some of the stretch caused by tooling. If you dont want to buy an expensive one, Just to down to your local glass shop, and have them cut you a piece of really thick glass about 6inches by 4 inches and round the corners, and the edges. it shoud cost you about $5 and will work the same as one that costs $80. Hope this helps, Justin Alps
