I have been trying to figure out how to build a rodeo bronc halter. If anyone has a pattern or tips I would be grateful

I don't know if this is the place to post this but going to ask anyway. I have a nephew riding saddle bronc in high school rodeo and I want to make him a halter but can't find a pattern. The halter he has borrowed is nylon so I can get measurements but can't fully get the concept of how to construct it out of leather. He is worried about it being strong enough and I know they are constructed out of doubled harnesses leather. Anyone have any tips or patterns that would help?

My first leather project was a pair of suspenders for my grandfather. He said he liked them but never seen him wear them.
