A few years ago I made a bunch of simple belt pouches like this one.. I lost the pattern and made a new one, but for some reason I'm having trouble going around the bottom. I'm getting more bunching than I should. I've trimmed out notches but it is still doing it, and I can't for the life of me recall how I made the others go... Any suggestions? The body is 8/9 oz and the gussets are 3/4 oz... Thanks much...

Horse saddle... 16" western...

I'm putting together a saddle bag pattern, but I'm not sure what a good starting dimension would be for the length of the leather that attaches the two bags.. Any advice?? thanks...

Thanks chief... The drawing was submitted by the customer so it's probably just conceptual. I'm not sure folding the gusset accordion style would even be practical as the purse is intended to just carry the gun in the rear pocket, and a few things in the front. The few purses I do build are more primitive mountain man, or possibles bag style. I actually have my own ideas on how to do the job, since I do a bit of leather work, and do carry a gun. But it's sometimes very difficult to change a persons mind. I appreciate the input.. Regardless of the folds in the gusset, I'll probably do just as you suggest. I doubt the threads showing will be an issue.. Regards, and thanks again!!

I've been asked to build a two pocket gusseted purse... I've never done that, and none of my searches here have produced any answers... Any help on how to attach the divider? The gussets will be of a 3-3 oz cowhide and the front and back will probably be an 8wt, since it is for CCW use..... Should I sew two seperate gussets? I'd prefer some input before I mess up some leather! Here is a drawing of the proposed purse...... Thanks much..

I ended up having to type the web page name into my search widow and then click on that link... But whatever works! He has nice stuff! Being in Alaska I like the bear paw.. that and a bit of text... But.. I still might play with making one.. Just to say I did! That way I can get frustrated and order one from them later!

I've had the thought, to build my own makers mark. I find the oval "maker" style rather boring and quite frankly a bit over priced. I thought I'd try my own using a dremel and a wood burning set to make a shallow mold and piur one using some old linotype I have. Has anyone ever made your own? What worked? What didn't?

??????? Granite is available for free at every granite countertop place I've ever seen... They have piles of scrap out back they are very happy to have you haul away for free.....

Thanks Tom... I can barely do leather work, let alone, draw or color.. As for the length of the closure strap... I kind of did that on purpose, as a security thing. Since I build holsters, retention is paramount.. So I kind of factor in keeping the things in the purse... in the purse so to speak.. I'll look at it more closely though. Easier to make it shorter than longer!!! Or maybe I'm just over thinking it, and NOT wanting it to resemble the cheap import stuff....

This is it so far... Granted it's meant for a child.... but it just seems like it needs something on the flap.....

I have been making some simple purses, bags for the local tourist trade. One small purse aimed at the younger crowd is basically a reduced size possibles bag made of various deer/elk/etc hide... I decorate them up a bit and they look good for a semi impulse buy item. However....... The flap is usually left rather plain (no two are exactly alike), and I'm thinking I should finish off the flap edge a bit with something, that won't drive the price point up.... I don't want to try and build a $80 bag, to sell for $20 ya know!... Any thoughts on this? A rolled edge seems kind of labor intensive... Maybe just more fringe??

Since I got my Tippmann, most of my scrap goes into keeping my machine adjusted properly....... Which as some know... can take some time!...

I have good luck just using the chunk of granite countertop that I use for my tooling (if you can call it that!) Then I trim the post a bit with an end nipper, and sometimes use a small file to smooth it out.....

I'm having the same trouble. I've gone over the machine, and it is thread properly, and everything looks as it should. I'm not dropping a stutch as far as I can tell, but it will bind on the downstroke, and that is when I see the double loop. I watched the trouble shooting video, but, I'm going to call Tippmann tomorrow morning.... Since I can't afford another machine I guess I have to learn this one inside and out....
