I need some advise on this one
Randyc replied to Randyc's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
Thats kind of the direction I'm leaning towards. I recently built a holster for a customer's Laser-Lite equipted Glock 19. I duplicated the laser sight with a block of wood duct taped to my Glock 19 mold gun. It worked out well. -
I need some advise on this one

Tim, The customer is not local, he's overseas in the military. I forgot to post a photo of his weapon. I just attached it. Randy -
A potential customer contacted me asking that I build him a holster for a Safari Matchmaster .45 Cal. Auto. I haven't checked all the demensions, but it appears to have been modeled after the Colt 1911 Government Frame. If the demensions are the same as a Governemnt Model, I can use my 1911 Government Blue Gun. The problem I see is the square trigger guard. I really don't want to do any permanent modifications to my Blue Gun for a one holster deal. Any suggestions for a non-permanent modification I can make to my Blue Gun to achieve the squared off trigger guard? I try to accomadate the customers, but I'm not sure this one would be worth it. URGENT NEWS U.S. Customs Proposal

First our assisted knifes Then our assisted living. Then my Rings Blue Gun Molds Oh the horror! Randy -
Today, a potential customer contacted me with a request for OWB holsters for his Sig Sauer P-229 and P-239 pistols. Are these 2 models popular enough to warrant the investment in Blue Gun molds? Thanks, Randy

Bill, I was wondering if the current Duncan mold guns are finished well, or do they need cleanup before using? Randy

Monica, Here''s the phone number for Rings Blue Guns. Call direct and talk to John Ring 321-951-0017 There's a nice older genteman who sometimes answers the phone. He screwed up my address on one of my orders so it's better to talk to John Ring directly. It's also a good idea to make sure the model is in stock or risk the wait. John's a nice guy to deal with. If theres any problems, you an tell him not "mess with Texas Woman." Good Luck, Randy

Nice looking holster. After glueing, I use a holster press for my initial forming. I press the dry leather around the pistol and draw out my stitch lines. Once the stirch lines are drawn out, I flatten then stitch the holster. One I've finished the stitching, I wet the leahter and do my wet molding. Randy

I have some real bad experiences purchasing Blue Guns from police equiptment suppliers. Most of the suppliers don't stock anywhere near a complete line of availlable Blue Guns. After you place an order, the supplier orders through Rings Blue Guns. A 2 week delivery promise turns into several months. ie. I ordered a Blue Gun from a well known police supplier, The nice lady promised me shipping within 2 weeks. Two months go by and no Blue Gun. A month later, instead of the Blue Gun I ordered, they send me out a dummy magazine instead. By now I'm ready to choke someone. The nice lady promises 3-4 more weeks. I cancel the order and give John Ring at Rings Bllue Guns a call. I pitch a royal bitch to John who assures me he has the model in stock. Less then a week later, I have it. I encourage everyone to pay the extra $10.00 and order directly from John Ring, but first make sure the model is in stock because the manufactor doesn't always keep every model in stock. Randy

Tom Threepersons holster
Randyc replied to Lobo's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
Ray, Great looking holster and a fine tribute to legendary lawman Tom Threepersons and to S.D Myers Saddlery. Are you using a welt on this holster or just sewing the edges together? I just purchased a Taurus Judge mold gun from Jeff (Boom Stick Holsters) and I have a Colt Python myself. I'm planning out some designs for those two weapons. Randy -
Ray, Your website looks great and congradulations on your move to commercial space. Randy

Hey guys, thanks alot for the information. Ray (Lobo) is nice enough to be sending me several sets of T-Nuts so I will know what size to start buying. Randy
-
I'm working on my first IWB holster and planning to use T-Nuts and screwa to attach the belt straps. The holster is a 2 piece design made from 6/7 oz. cowhide. The belt straps are also 6/7 oz so I' looking at 18-21 oz. total thickness. I will be using "durable duty" Line 24 Snaps. Whats the proper size/length of T-nut and screw size to use? Whats the best way or tool to use to set the T-nut prongs into the leather? Thanks, Randy

Pancake Holster with some Shark Trim
Randyc replied to ArcherBen's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
Ben, Nice job on the holster. I've had an XD45 for over a year and still haven't built a holster for it. I'm kind of like the auto mechanic with the car that doesn't run or the plumber with leaky pipes. I build holsters for my customers, but sometimes don't get around to buiding one for myself. At least I now know how an XD holster should look. Randy -
first try at holster
Randyc replied to yldbill's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
Bill, My 50 plus year old eyes can't see the stitching or edges so I can't comment on those things. The molding looks pretty good as well as the pattern of your holster. I't does look to me that your belt slots could be cleaned up a bit. Tell us a little more about the weight leather you used and I'd like to know which pistol you made the holster for? Believe me, I know what it's like to build a holster and not have it fit it's attended weapon. The key to building holsters is to keep on keeping on. I learn something new every time I build a holster and try to make the current one better then the last one. Now get busy and build a holster to fit your weapon and don't forget to take pictures and ask questions. You have some of the best and most helpful hobby and prefessional holster makers hanging out on this forum. Randy -
I've some Jerimiah Watt edgers that I really like. I've been thinking about one of Jerimiah's head knife's. How do you like your's? Right now I'm using one of Weaver Leather's head knifes and I have a new Osbourne head knife. Thanks, Randy

Your stitching look real good and I like the color. Myself, I like the looks of white thread on tan/brown holsters. I just checked out your first holster and like the rounded look of "the wings" a bit better. The squared off wing may tend get banged up after awhile. You may want to consider moving your front lelt slit up a bit. You will give your holster a nice forward cant and help to the pistol in closer to your body. My preferance is to lay out my my belt slits so the belt passes closer to the middle of the trigger guard. With a belt slide holster, some of the holsters retention qualities are directly related to the belt and belt slit placement. Now get busy and build more holsters, you will soon have the disease like the rest of us. Randy

First Two Holsters
Randyc replied to rybord's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
Ray, Nice work on your 2 holsters. They both show a good functional design. I think you probably discovered 10 oz. is a little over kill for a concealed holster. I noticed your boning is alot for pronounced on the 2nd holster due to the lighter leather. On your next holster, you may want to more closely follow the counter of the weapon with your stitch line. Believe me, I'm still practicing that skill myself. I really like your British tan dye job on the 2nd holster. I've yet been able to get a nice even coat with British tan. What brand dye did you use, and how did you apply it? Randy -

I started marketinng what I call a semi-custom line of pocket holsters on ebay and have done pretty well at it with the added bonus of steering people to my website for the more custom type holsters. I try to keep 4 to 6 different holsters on ebay all the time. If one doesn't sell I'm only out the .85 cent listing fee. I place a 5 day order processing delay prior to shipment which gives me ample time to build the holster and not have a bunch of holsters lying around waiting to be sold. I'm also able to control the amount of new orders so I don't fall into the trap of having so many orders that I can't offer realistic build times that result in disapointed customers. With this semi-custom line of holsters, I can offer a better holster, for a cheaper price then some of the mass produced "junk" holsters offered on ebay Randy

gun molds for holster makers
Randyc replied to troop's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
Thanks Tom, so far my customers have been very understanding and willing to wait for me to build their holsters. I need to be a little more conservative on my estimated build times when I have to order a mold gun I don't already have. Randy -
Ruger LCP Dummy pistol
Randyc replied to Randyc's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
I ordered the LCP directly from Rings around a month ago. They told me 2 weeks and I'm still waiting. Hopefully this coming week, Ill have the LCP mold. If the LCR takes off like the LCP did there should be plenty of business out there for us holster builders. Randy -
gun molds for holster makers
Randyc replied to troop's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
Hey Guys, On March 17th I ordered a Blue Gun from a police equiptment supplier. I paid around $36.00 for the mold. I was told it would be shipped within a week and a half. My credit card was charged for the order. On Monday I called the supplier and was told they were scheduled to receive the shipment from Rings on May 11th. I found out that most suppliers don't actually stock all of the Blue Gun model. Around 3 weeks ago I ordered a different model Blue Gun directly from Rings Mfg. I was told I would have the mold in 2 weeks. Still no molds. Now I can't deliver on the holsters I've promised my customers and I'm falling behind on my projected build times. I can't do much about Rings manufactoring times, but I sure would like to find a reseller who would be up front about delivery times. Randy
