New Pocket Holster With Ammo Holder
Randyc replied to Randyc's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
Guys.thanks for the kind words. Mike The 6/7 Oz. cuts pretty easily. The 8/9 oz. is a little tougher to cut. Randy -
Dan, Like Mike says, attach your throat piece while your holster is still flat' After I design my throat piece, I glue then stitch the throat piece to the holster body. If I'm building a tunnel/loop holster with the throat band, I glue and stitch the throat band and tunnel loop at the same time while the holster body is still flat. Remember to pre-groove your stitch line or run an over stitch wheel over your stitching again while the holster body is still flat. (The thread on the inside of your throat band will take a beating while holstering and unholstering the pistol) Remember to bevel your throat band, again while the holster body is still flat. Hope this helps Randy

First attempt at a knife sheath
Randyc replied to mliebs8's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
Mike, You did a very nice job on your sheath. The bolo knife retention is a very cool addition. Randy -
I was looking through my old holster drawer and found an old pocket holster for my North American Arms Mini .22 Revolver. This old holster was too narrow along the bottom and would tip over in my pocket and end up with the barrel facing up. " Tactically Bad" I decided to redesign this holster making the bottom at least 1" wider. This one fills the bottom of my pocket and remains upright. This one made of 6 oz. Hermann Oak cowhide, stitched with 277 weight thread, and finished in Fieblings USMC black. The ammo holder has a heavy duty line 24 snap and holds up to 7 rounds of .22 LR ammo.

I don't do much stamping, but I do have several of his edgers. I replaced my Tandy Craft-tool edgers with his edgers. You can order tools directly from his website. www.ranch2arena.com Randy

Peterk Nice job on those holsters and sheath. I really like that shade of brown. How did you do it? Randy -
I use silver ink pens for drawing out patterns and stitch lines on my leatherwork. I purchased mine from Fisher Space Pen Company. Hope this helps. www.spacepen.com Randy

Latest knife sheath
Randyc replied to Grunt's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
Nick Very cool little sheath. I have several friends in Texas who are custom boot makers. Once they have reached the pinnicle of succuss building reguler sized custom boots, their next logical progression in the trade is to build miniature boots on miniature lasts. I'm sure your wife is very happy with that little knife and sheath. Randy -
Thats the one. I've never used one, but see them on quite a few custom holsters

You need to describe the type of belt clips you would like to use. Tandy Leather sells the nickel metal belt clips. I've used them on cell phone cases, but don't care to use this type for holsters. Comp-Tac makes a nice kydex clip. I haven't used these yet, but other makers speak highly of them. I prefer leather belt loops and heavy duty snaps. Hope this helps. Beltslide Holster For Kahr PM45
Randyc replied to Randyc's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
Lobo Thanks for your comments and kind words. My 8/9 oz. leather holsters are boned close enough to retain the loaded pistol when the holster is held upside down. By experimenting with 6/7 oz. leather, I hope to achieve the "jumps out at you" detail boning demonstrated by Bruce Gibson, Jeff (Boomstick), Shorts and other makers on this forum. Randy -
Wallet pattern test

Nice clean looking design. What size thread and needle did you use in your stitcher? I'd like to try doing some lighter work with my 3000. Randy -
Josh Very nice work. Your little brother will be happy. Can you please adopt me Randy

Beltslide Holster For Kahr PM45
Randyc replied to Randyc's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
Being a southpaw, building left handed holsters comes pretty easy for me. Now, I really have to strain the left side of my brain to plan out a right handed holster. All I used on that one was Tan-Kote. My over jealous boning and probably too wet of leather resulted in the dark spots inside the trigger guard and ejection port. Those dark spots are really highlighted with my below average photography skills. I'm trying to get away from black, black, and more black holsters. I haven't had much luck with the Fieblings tan, light and medium brown dies straight out of the bottle, but I've been able to make a nice shade of tan by mixing Fieblings light brown with alcohol. In working with natural or tan, I've learned to keep my hands and work area clean which is probably a good thing. Here's another shot of my Glock beltslide finished in my own shade of tan. This one's has become my favorite daily on duty holser -
Beltslide Holster For Kahr PM45
Randyc replied to Randyc's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
The Kahr PM series are polymar framed pistols, so their light compared to steel frame pistols. The 6/7 oz. leather has also worked out well for my pocket holsters and S&W J Frame airweight pistols. I like the molding capabilities of the 6/7 oz. for lighter pistols. I'm going to try the lighter weight leather in a full size government .45 and see how that goes. If anyone else cares to interject their opinions, please feel free. Randy -
I built this beltslide holster for my Kahr PM45 yesterday. It's made from 6/7 oz. Hermann Oak cowhide. I think this weight leather is much easier to wet form and detail bone as compared to the 8/9 oz, leather I had used for my last Glock holster. I liked the way the natural color looked and decided to leave it natural. I finished this one with Tan Kote to protect the leather. I'll wear this one next weekend to check for comfort and fitment. In the meantime, I want to clean up the belt slits a bit, then this one should be good to go. All comments are welcome. Thanks Randy

Lining Holsters
Randyc replied to rickeyfro's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
Using a lining depends on what type of holster you are planning to build. Cowboy holsters are sometimes lined. Concealed carry holsters are seldom lined. I only build concealed carry holsters and don't line my holsters. Randy -
I'd sure like to know if it would handle veg tan leather and how thick? Randy

Belt Case Holster For Mini-Revolver
Randyc replied to Randyc's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
Thanks for the kind words guys. Texas Jack Although, I'm stuck in the cowboy boot barren and very currupt State of Illinois, I've been to Texas 3 times during the past few years. I studied boot making under Carl Chappell in Saint Jo in 2006. I also went to the Boot and Saddle Makers Roundup in Wichata Falls in 2005-2006. I know quite a few of the cutom boot makers in Texas and really like your state. I wear this one just forward of my weakside hip. Up here no one would ever quess it contains a revolver. It looks like a case for carrying a Black Berry or other tecno-geek device. Rayban If your buddy wants one, go for it. That was a fun project. Shorts I'm sure you won't be the last lady to tell me "it's so cute."
