  6. Mike, Some people recommend a larger size top thread, smaller bobbin thread. That thread combination is supposed to be easier on the timing of your machine. I have a Artisan Toro 3000 stitcher. When stitching knife sheaths, I use a size 277 thread on both my top and bobbin threads. I prefer "the look" of same size threads. Randy
  7. mike, Nice job on the purse. I like the contrasting colors between the green leaves and tan backrouund. Randy

  16. Hi All, I discovered this forum a few days ago and I'm really impressed with the quality of content. I started in leatherwork about 4 years ago. I've made several wallets, cell phone cases, knife sheaths, holsters and a pair of western boots that I built while studying under Carl Chappel in St.Jo Texas. I'm still not sure if I want to focus on holsters and sheaths or boots and shoes. Maybe one day I will figure it all out. I have a pretty well equipted leather/boot shop including a saddle stitcher, top stitcher and many hand tools. (actually way more then I use) Learning is a life long experience and I know I can learn a few things from this forum. Randy
  17. Joanna, I felt bad when I heard Carl's boots were stolen. I studied boot making under Carl Chappel a year ago this past June and have admired that particular pair of boots on several occasions
