  1. 25b, Dublin is like cheating - burnishes very well, as do the horse fronts. Chromexcel can be a pain but gets there in time. Cocobolo burnisher, deer antler, wax, sand and canvas. Melt in some beeswax, resand, burnish again. Chromexcel sometimes needs to be hardened with resolene, then treated to the above as normal.
  2. I thought you lovely lot might like to see the wallets I've made, so far, for Christmas. These are mostly Horween Dublin horsehide, with a little Chromexcel in there for good measure. Full album - http://imgur.com/a/sDDg6
  3. Just checking in, how did you go? Your plan might need to extend to importing leather - usually, Australia has a pretty poor leather selection, too, so I bring it all in from the US.
  4. Old thread, but importing into Australia is close to $500 a pop for 3-10 sides.
  5. So, building some slings. Wickett and Craig medium brown bridle, 8-10oz, sliced into a 1" strap and a 2 1/2" strap. Just gotta work out the measurements and hardware placements... And decide on a liner yay/neh and we are ready to rock and roll. Iffy on the liner idea. Every leather sling I've owned lifted at the ends, which just kind of looks shabby.. In two minds, the ends of slings must be 1" to accommodate the swivels so it's a big taper.. Hrmm. Spending the night staring at it waiting for inspiration to hit! Pro: decorative stitching bonus, looks great Con: ending edges always seem to lift as you can't burnish then into the outer layer, suede and nubuck doesn't burnish very well and tends to be lower level leather splits, tends to be a failure point, grippy leather is difficult to get clean. A waxed nubuck maybe? Smooth leathers look the nicest but could potentially be a bit slippery on steep inclines.
  6. Thank you these worked out pretty well. The vertical uses 4oz an an exterior, with a 2.5oz horsehide interior. Using less layers, the horizontal is 4oz all around, but the Cavalier is a little firmer so it works out.
  7. Hi everyone, I've spent a lot of time reading here, but never really contributed. Just showing some wallets I've completed this week. The horizontal bifold is Horween Cavalier stitched with 0.8mm grey Tiger thread. The vertical is Brown Chromexcel + CXL Horsehide interior stitched with 0.6mm brown Tiger thread.
  8. Is this still available, and would you be happy to ship to Australia?
  9. How thick is this and what are the tannage properties? I'll take it if you'll post to Australia. Will definitely take it, now I've done some reading... just let me know what you need for postage, and your details, and I'll go ahead and pay. saschasrichardson@gmail.com
