Im just starting to look for a sewing machine, after doing everything by hand. In what little research I've done, ive assertained that the Singer 29 is a good model. I found one for sale locally, they want $800, What do I need to look for, and is it hard to restore these to good working condition? Here is the picture:

Have always loved leather goods, and want to try my hand at making some of my own pieces. Love the great wealth of knowledge found here. A couple of my first pieces ID Badge Holder - Field Notes Case - 2nd piece, admittedly a bit rough

So I started leather working because I fell in love with Saddleback leather products and wanted to try my hand at making my own pieces. I love their tobacco brown and dark coffee brown color and am looking for something similiar. I think that the stoned oil leather at Tandy is pretty similar, but don't have a store near me to check it out. Does anyone know of a place I can order smaller quantities so I can see first hand what it looks like before ordering a large quantity?
