  1. We also Have 2 dogs we rescued. What a joy to give an unfortunate dog who found the wrong parents a good life.

The first is Olivia (Livvy), liver and white English Springer Spaniel. She was 6 mths old when we found her. She had a mother who would lock her in a cage when her Dad was gone, sometimes as long as the entire day.

The Second is Lilly, Black and white English Springer Spaniel, She had 3 homes and was at a Four Footed Friend before finding us. She took a while for us to get comfortable but now she is quite the dog. She has long eye lashes and knows how to use them on my wife, she can even make herself cry.

    What personalities they have.

  2. First off thanks for the referral Andy

This is my opinion  to sew heavier weight the Adler 205 is one of the beter machines.

I have a 105 and a 205 in my shop to make it more versatile. I can sew jsut about anything with the 2 machines up to an inch.

To sew heavier you need a needle and awl machine. There is no substitute for their ability we can sew easily up to over 1 1/4". But they are not easy to keep running, you have to have some experience or know someone who does. And remember to always keep you fingers out of these ones, personal experience, because the machines don't feel a thing but you sure will.

I prefer the Adler Machines for up to 3/4"

  5. As randy mentioned you need 3 machines. He mentions a artisan toro, Another good machine that is very versatile is an adler 205-64, or 105-64. These are very versatile machines as is the toro is.

In our shop we sew soles with an american straight needle.

As far as decorative top stitching we reccomend a walking foot machine with a safety clutch.

I have to agree with Lindsay, I have both needle and awl machines and adlers 205's, as well as 105's

In order to sew heavy leather and produce the nicest stitch the needle and awl machine is superb. I sew on a Landis 16, Yes they are old and very heavy, but they never let me down. The only downside to them there are only a couple of us monkeys who know how to work on them. My father and I ar 2 of them. But when it comes to presentation ther are far superior.

  7. Jarl,

I have to agree with the one other post. In order to sew leather you should have an industrial Walking foot machine. I have been servicing and repairng machines for many years with my father. The other thing I have to reccommend is a safety clutch. These are a must when sewing leather. I have seen many hooks and gears tore up due to not having one. You would probably be able to sew very light leather approx. 3/4 oz with out trouble, but you need leather point needles. Try Toledo sewing machine sales,I tink that is the name, or weaver. As I said just be careful with that machine and remember to listen to the machine when sewing, they will make different sounds when you approach their limits.

I sew anywhere up to 1 1/2 inch with harness machines and down to 2/3 oz with a walking foot.

As one of the others said Leather does not take any special foot, we use standard feet on ours.
