I've been using it for wallets, and I am really impressed with the quality. You can get perfect edges with it, as it is a full veg tan. I love it. I didn't know Tandy has ever stocked it, that would surprise me! I think it's totally worth buying a half hide- i bought the 3oz and it makes for great wallet leather, especially for the interior.

Is there a distributor in the US? The tools look really well designed and very reasonable priced.

Harbor Freight gets a bad wrap, but i think their tools have a place- some of them suck, but some that io have gotten have worked really well!

Also, I will be stitching all of this by hand, so it pays to be really sure ! In the Amazon link , they clearly just glue a strip to cover the stitch line in between the pockets- I think the one on Amazon is one continuous piece of 'canvas' and just brought in in-between the pockets. I really appreciate the insight, and am so glad to have this resource.

Thanks for the links! The buffalo Jackson pictures gave me what I needed. I was mostly confused with how the corners were done, because I don't think I can do that with 2.5-3 oz leather, ( I could but it would bunch up around the seem ) so I am going to have to do it a little different . Thanks!

Well, I am glad you did, red bear. I had one my grandfather had that was awesome, but can't find it anymore. I have to say that i don't know what spring steel is and I always assumed my sap just had a really taught spring in there and then it had a flat lead weight- similar to a really thick, really heavy, coin in the end. I have considered the coin purse idea- but haven't ironed out all the kinks yet.

I am trying to figure out how make a shaving roll like the one pictured below. I will be using a 2.5 oz horse hide for the pockets and innards, but I am trying to figure out whether to make the zippered pockets like the ones here, and not really understanding how they were done, and making them gusseted but with a gusset that goes the whole way round and is zippered . If that makes any Damn sense. Anyhow, any ideas are appreciated or if anyone has done something similar, any advice. I've been pouring over my Stohllman books, and a few others, trying to find the right pocket, and am still having a hard time wrapping my head around it. Thanks, y'all.

and here is mine ! Had some things I had to iron out, but I'm pretty please with it. I added some snaps on the straps. -
Rocky mountain leather supply also has started carrying tiger thread, and a bunch of other hard to find items.

I have made something similar to this for a while, but i turned the tabs on the gussets or side pieces outward so the stitching was easier. This time around i did it the way the pattern suggests- which looks better- but it took me a long time! I use a pricking iron to mark the holes and then use the awl as I'm stitching to poke the holes, but i find it hard to keep a even stitching line (especially on the inside) and i am also poking lots of holes in my fingers, or more than I usually do. Also, when i used the pattern , the holes for the straps were not lined up so i added another 3.5 inches to the flap and then cut the holes out when i knew they would line up. -
whats the size of this or rather, what size paper should i use to print it out? Thanks so much for the great pattern!
