  1. I'd like to, but I'm trying to find a place to buy the plastic ones to cover myself. The place I bought that one from has gone out of business. I covered that one with Herman Oak saddle skirting. Regards Buff
  2. I'm not sure who made those reata's. I just bought them. Regards Buff
  3. Thanks for the compliments. At the price of hay now days, you have to feed sparingly. LOL Actually all of my horse's are to fat and under used. Regards Buff
  4. Megabit We have some real steep & long inclines going into and out of that lake. So I like using a breechin when I'm leading a pack horse. I hate wrecks. Regards Buff
  5. I will only use Wickett & Craig or Herman Oak. Regards Buff
  6. I just made the knife case. Before that I used a pocket knife on a small lanyard with a trigger snap that I would hook to the D. because it's hard to get a pocket knife out of your pocket with chaps on. I personally don't like the looks of chaps & chinks with big old bulky pockets sewn on, just me. So you might as well put one on the other side just in case, right? Regards Buff
  7. Thanks for the complement's. Regards Buff
  8. Thanks. The pic was taken in the High Unite mountains of Utah. Buff
  9. They are all Wickett & Craig 10/12oz leather, lined. Regards Buff
  10. This was my first saddle. Every piece of leather on this horse I made. Regards Buff
  11. Here are a few holsters I've made. Regards Buff
  12. It's cow. My original idea was to use some African animal hide. I went on a safari last year, but most of the hair was to long and just did not look right. So since I had everything else all cut out, I just used cow. Regards Buff

    Plastic canteen

Like the one on my saddle on the left. Regards Buff
  14. Does anyone know where I can get those 2 quart plastic canteens to cover with leather? Regards Buff
  15. I like Fox Valley Leather by far the best. Buff
  16. I needed a scabbard for a rifle with a 50mm scope. So I made this. Made from 10-12oz Wickett & Craig saddle skirting lined with chap leather. Buff
  17. A local saddle maker, that has made saddles over 50 years taught me here in West Valley Utah. He has been teaching me now for about 6 or 7 years. (off and on) I feel really lucky to be taught some of the tricks by a true old master. Buff
  18. Thanks for the comments. The word "chinks" may have come from Spanish words chingo (leather stirrup covers) or chingadera ("cut off, blunted"), but the derivation is still unproven. The tops are made from 10-12 Wickett & Craig saddle skirting, oiled. The chink is about 4 oz drum died cow hide. The fringe is elk hide. And the (moose LOL) "Elk" is laser engraved. Buff

    New guy

I just joined 2 days ago. I've just been reading post. Looks like a feller could learn a lot around here. I had a guy teach me how to make saddles that has been making them for 5o years. I've only made 2 along with a few holsters, belts, and chaps. This looks like a good place to hang out. Buff
