A Few Etsy Custom Requests
MudBugWill replied to MudBugWill's topic in Purses, Wallets, Belts and Miscellaneous Pocket Items
Thanks Buttons! Conrad Park: Lately, via my etsy store, I have been contacted by people with ideas for leather items that I don't currently offer. They like the materials and execution of my offerings, but would like me to fabricate an idea they have. These are the items I have been asked to make, and made in the past couple weeks. Don't worry I am in no way offended. You're correct, I was a bit ambiguous.- 9 replies

Suede Lined Double Gusset Briefcase
MudBugWill replied to MudBugWill's topic in Satchels, Luggage and Briefcases
Thank you all for the compliments. For my stitching I punch all the way through with a Blanchard Iron. I noticed a dramatic improvment in the aesthetics of my stitching once I started doing that. The knife to the left of the pared gussets is a kiridashi style knife I made. It is made from 3/32" o1 tool steel heat treated to 62 RC with a chisel grind. The handle is some scrap dyed wood I had from another knife I made. The pins are copper. I really love that knife. It stays super sharp and is my go-to for cutting leather. This thread has some photos of it: http://leatherworker.net/forum/index.php?showtopic=62474 Here's a photo of my latest carry knife I made. I'm pretty happy with how it came out. -
Suede Lined Double Gusset Briefcase
MudBugWill replied to MudBugWill's topic in Satchels, Luggage and Briefcases
I made my center divider Sewed my gussets on (Pricked both gussets and connected with a round awl through the center divider. Slanted stitches on both side.) made my handle and handle/shoulder strap gussets Here's a little mock up with stuff kind of draped on -
Here is the progress on my briefcase. Photos were very helpful to me in creating the design and construction of this, so I figure I'll share what I have done so far. I'm waiting on a D-ring to finish it. Right now it's on hold. I cut out and skived all edges that weren't top edges I lined them with green suede Made my strap keepers Sewed my three piece gussets, pre-lined, which seems like a mistake. I needes to make a little cover for the gap. Do most people line with one piece after they sew them together?

I am selling this spool, having used about 20' of it at most. I just prefer round thread to tiger thread. $40 shipped. 1.0 mm tiger thread in Tan color

I am selling my sides of Saffiano / Stationary leathers. I wanted to make some fancy leather goods, but have decided I would like to stick with more rugged goods from Horween Veg-tan sides. I have Blue, Green, Red, White/Cream. 15-18 sq ft. $100 shipped per side 1.3/1.5mm with a box grain finish.

Thank you very much for your help! A photo would be incredible

No, that is very clear. Thanks! So do you think its just sewn across at the bottom and the excess is trimmed off?

I was looking at Hermes wallets for inspiration and came across an interesting zip pocket design that i cant quite wrap my head around. Obviously It will have a triangular shaped gusset folded in half, but the bottom of the gusset is what I'm unsure of (the "point" of the triangle). Does anyone know how this is done?

Hello All, Knifemaking has been an hobby of mine for the past year and I decided today that I was tired of using an X-acto knife to cut my leather. I wanted something with some soul. I drew up a Japanese Kiridashi inspired design and ground my 3/32" o1 tool steel to shape, gave it a chisel bevel, heat treated it and tempered it. I put some handle scraps I had from another knife on it, and i think it came out pretty neat. After it hit my Japanese waterstones, it is by far the sharpest knife I have ever made.

Embarking On A Purse
MudBugWill replied to MudBugWill's topic in Purses, Wallets, Belts and Miscellaneous Pocket Items
Finally finished it. That Strap sure took a long time to stitch. It's 100" and took about four hours. My girlfriend is ecstatic, and I am ready to move on to my next project. -
Embarking On A Purse
MudBugWill replied to MudBugWill's topic in Purses, Wallets, Belts and Miscellaneous Pocket Items
Thanks Monica. I was wondering the same thing about the glue. I didn't want to stitch it because I thought it might look too busy. I might have to though. Maybe I.ll use black thread. The handle is riveted and stitched and fully backstitched. -

Is there some sort of quick release for the pistol retention strap? -
Leatherman Case
MudBugWill replied to Stitch Dex Holsters's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
Righteous case! That dye job gives the leather such a nice look. Like I've been around for 100 years, and I will be around for 100 years more haha -
So, I've recently gotten bitten with the leatherwork bug after making a little dual moleskine cover, and decided to order an Horween second Essex split and make my Ol' Lady a purse. I ordered a Fuschsia suede split for the interior. To warm up I made a dog collar for my mother's French Bulldog with copper hardware I sand casted, and then drunkenly made a super-slim wallet to test out the stitching pony I just finished. Anyway, I am near getting all the purse pieces cut-out and ready for initial edge finishing. I designed it on auto-cad and transfered my copy paper patterns to poster-board, cut out my my major leather pieces and lined them with suede using welbond. Talk about fumes, whooweeee! I had a respirator on and it still got to me. I ate an entire bag of Veggie Stix, I guess I had the glue munchies. I didn't know there was such a thing!
