I'm still practising with some offcuts I picked up cheap and these offcuts seem to suit bracers and cuffs, so that's what I'm doing. For this one I wanted to try and get a roller derby track (I'm a referee and announcer for the sport) with my name in the middle of it. I had some difficulty with the long straight and curved lines of the track (which I expected to be honest!) but I think I've got a good idea of what I'd do differently next time. I also realised way to late that I'd picked up a piece of leather with a huge scratch in it. As it is just a practice piece I carried on with it anyway.

Forgot to post the image of this when it was finished. I was pleased with the way it turned out and my missus absolutely loves it. -
Swallow Bracer/cuff - Wip

At the moment I only have a bottle of Fiebings Antique Stain so I gave it a coat of that last night, and tonight I'll hit it up with some resolene to finish. I'll post some pics once I get the piece finished. -
Decided to try and make something for my "Better Half" last night and she decided she wanted a swallow in the style of a classic tattoo design. An hour later and I'd got this far. I need to go round with the edge beveller again as I can see a few tool marks in places, but otherwise I'm quite happy with the progress. Thoughts and comments are welcomed.

Pictish Mermaid Bracer
Sven WillIBeFamous replied to AndyL1's topic in Collars, Cuffs, Leashes and Leads
Very nice! I'm just starting to make bracers myself now. I need to get better at sizing them, and I also need to learn how to make and fix the straps. -
Not really... It was the first piece I've tried to stain and finish. I used the Fiebings Acrylic antique stain and some resoline to finish it off but I think I didn't apply enough of the stain and so when the resoline went on and stripped some of the colour out it went lighter than intended.

Greetings From Newcastle Upon Tyne, Uk

Yeah, I've already been to Le Prevo and picked up a few basic tools to go with the stuff that was in the Tandy starter kit. Really nice chaps and even though they had the opportunity to fleece me for all my cash they actually guided me to buying the stuff that was right for me. I'm already planning my next shopping list from them... -
Awesome! I'm getting a lot of requests from LARP playing friends to make bracers for them. Do you have a pattern for these?

Thanks for the feedback. With the heart, I had intentionally made that cut to try and give a bit of depth to it. At the moment I don't have a lot of tools so I couldn't bevel it the way I wanted to. I'm still experimenting with casing the leather and getting used to when it's right for working with.

Hi All, Just a shout out as I've now joined this forum proper. I got a Tandy Basic Starter Kit last Friday and bolstered that with some extra bits and pieces from a great shop in Newcastle city centre. I have a long list of projects which I'm hoping to get on with as I develop my skills including lots of LARP armour for friends, and just as many guitar straps. I look forward to sharing my work and getting your critique. My 1st couple of pieces are attached to this post. The M.C. cuff is the very 1st piece I attempted, and the gryphon design is something which I thought my give me practice with the swivel blade(it did!). I'm hoping to finish the gryphon design off tonight.

I got the Tandy basic starter set on Friday and a bag of Veg Tan offcuts from ebay and I've started practising with the tools in there. One piece is a wrist cuff for my dad which I need to attach some press studs to, and the other piece is a practice for some LARP armour which I'm planning for the future. I'd appreciate any feedback you can offer to put me on the right track or get me into good habits from the start. Thanks, Sven
